Kiitos. Suomi ei ole helppoa!   ;)
Anyways, welcome!

I have always wounder if the 4.0 limit is in the heads. When we tried it out it was very inefficient, so it was tougher to get much power out of it. What limits have you found?

Terveisin,
Joakim

QuoteI have always wounder if the 4.0 limit is in the heads.

Kronenburg in the Netherlands got 365 hp / 440 nm N/A out of the 4.0 v6, with some porting of the heads, a different cam, trottle body's and there own KMS engine management. These engine where used in the BRL race series.

Thanks!
Small valves, camshaft and valve springs very mild. Only 28kg seat pressure and open pressure ... I don`t remeber this but not good.
it is now installed
Seat Pressure at 50,8kg
Open Pressure ~130kg
I have not found anything else

Seat Pressure at 50,8kg
Open Pressure ~130kg

Stock spring specs (from 91 FSM) - stock springs are 60-65lbs on the seat@ 1.58", and 138-149lbs open at 1.22"

assembled height stock is 1.578-1.609"

Spring pressure is only 143lbs @ 1.22in avg. and that with roller lifters, that's very weak.

Comp Cams 988 springs, with Crane Cams 99947 retainers is a popular upgrade.  Seat pressure of around 110-115lbs and 275 or 280lbs open.

Hi,and thanks information . I convert lbs to kg and I see they are very similar like to my springs.(Trick flow marker).

Pete

Trick flow uses comp cam or crane springs. They don't make there own springs.

Hi Pete & welcome.

There was a nice 4.0L in Denmark.

Was built to a good standard with excellent machine work.

It made 660lbs @ 3800 RPM on 1.7 bar but they could only get 600bhp out of it.

Also it didn't last long as the crank bent & also there was head problems so they abandoned the engine as a bad idea!

The bottom end was top spec as well!

Knackered crank!

Sorry to say the 4.0L OHV is not the best of engines for big power.

Hi Dave!

Thats Ravenz old engine. Now he runs a Cosworth 24v.

You can find more info here: http://www.ravenz.dk

puuhapete

Excellent! He found second turbo. I think that now works well.
I looked at their website. Professional quality job is a joy to watch

puuhapete

What are these Ravenz engine bearings coated?

Dave

I also use coated bearings.

It's a Teflon type coating like what pistons have.

Reduces friction & heat build up.

Was mega expensive but now I think all of the main brands give you the option.

Them Ravenz guys like the old V6 Fords.

They ran a 500bhp 2.9 twin turbo engine, then the 4.0L 600bhp one & currently a 750bhp plus 2.9 24V version.
Dave

puuhapete

I build sometimes again. About three years planned main bearing line. Ford friend make cad picture my measurement  and sketch, he follow it. This was  long project about three years total. But now it is  ready. I hope it is stronger and main caps life anymore.
Cad pic. (Thanks Timo V)

Then almost ready

include Eagle + Kb forged pistons and one piece main support

BOB oil pan modified

maybe one day I will continue again
Pete

Grey

The 4L gives a really heavy sound and it really feels like a big engine.
Of course you should continue!  ;)

capri v8 driver

That's the way to make a girdle.

Nice piece of work.

Nice Pete  ;D

Just the type of thing we have all been talking about making!

I would pay you to make another for me if the 4.0L block was not so different to the 2.9's oh & the fact it must be custom made for your block to be right!

Of course you will carry on

Yeah thanks Dave!

4.0 block and oil pan bolts passenger side (UK) is about 1/2 "wider than the 2.9.
it need modified and measure CAD pictures.

But this girdle come very expensive for me. =/  Milling Work is 560£ + material 250-350£ and matching engine costs something your country. (honing etc.)

Pete

Dave

Yeah I guessed it would be around 1000 pounds.

Material seems a lot, it's only mild steel isn't it???

Looks it in the picture I think!

Material is nomal fe50. Then burn cut and emit or release in the oven.
Right saying this?

Dave

You have done it the same as I plan too & have suggested is best.

The local firm to me wants 150 pounds to burn a rough piece of steel the same as that.

Yeah it's cut on the machine, then cooled & then planed flat both sides.

Fine! Maybe this then works well if more is same mind here process.
Your local firm price  to material is better than my.
