Hi Guys,

I've got a O3 Reg Fiesta 1.4 with Zetec SE Engine, (2Dr) in the workshop which has a PATS Problem, code B1681 PATS Transceiver Module Signal not Received !! Sometimes, if lucky it will start, most times not, just flashing Immo Light on dash

Anyway, the embarrasing part of that problem is I want to get the P/N off the Engine ECU, and just buy a matching Key ECU etc combo, and I can't find the ECU lol.

Anyone know where it's lurking ??

Also, does anyone know exactly what bits I need to get ??
Does anyone have a set they'd want to sell me ??

TIA

Cheers Dave

Either the key (transmitter) or the key ring on the ignition lock is at fault.

Does the same problem happen when you use the spare key?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies.  I'm specialising in Mercedes these days, have extended my Workshop, and earning well out of it, but this little Car is a friends sons first Car, trying to help them out, they don't have a lot of money to spend  ;)

Cossiemk2,

Yeah, thanks for that, don't know how I missed it yesterday, that is exactly where it is
In my defence, Car was outside yesterday and it was raining hard, I looked behind kick trims etc, didn't think to look there
Thank You  ;)

Paul,

Hi buddy, hope you're all OK, long time no speak  ;)
I still have the 4X4 Puma with 24V BOB btw, has stood a while due to a Family long illness / bereavement over the last 3 years, (Mel's Brother). A bit of TLC and Puma will be good again ;)

They have no spare key  :(

Thanks for that, kinda what I suspected, but I haven't worked on Fords in a long while ;)

Can I just change the Key Reader ring for a second hand one, or are they matched, (programmed) to ECU ??
I do have WDS but haven't used it in a loooooooong while, it may need new Battery Pack now before it will work :(

I can get a Blank Key Cut and code it to the Car with my Snap On Solus Ultra, but would have to drive 120 mile round trip to do that. I may try that first if I can find someone who is going to Inverness this week.

Can a used Key Chip be re programmed to it, could buy a second hand one off EBay via post, and fit to their Key blade or does it have to be a "Brand New Virgin" ??
I may even have an old Ford Chip key laying around from my old Scorpio ;)

TIA,

Cheers Dave

Hello Dave,

Nice to see you back here. Good to see you still have the puma. That's a cool project.

Its not going so well for me as you can read in my taunus 20m jaguar 3.0 v6 conversion topic.

The key reader is nothing more than a fancy antenna. No programming needed. Its a black ring on the ignition barrel with 1 small green connector. Its wired directly into the ecu. But because the engine still fires up, my bet would be on the key ring. Just get one at your local the car breaker. I never have seen a key chip go wrong. Maybe they have a fiesta that has still both his keys so you only have change the looks.

If he still has the master key (the black one with a red cap) he would be able to program his own keys if he buys a key with a blank chip. You can get the chip out of a other ford key if needed. The chips are the same.

Hi Paul,

LMAO, my local Car Breakers is in Aberdeen !! 250 mile round trip  ;D

However, I have bought a key reader from EBay for £9.99, should be here by Friday.
Great news I don't have to resurrect the WDS just yet, to program the Key Reader Ring, we've got a lot going on atm...............
Mels elderly parents needing full time care now, plus I'm busy with the new business, and I'm also buying and using a lot of Dealer Level Software / Leads, so constantly resurrecting Dell D620 / 630's and loading up new HDD's for them, and getting them into Service :)
I bought a job lot of Dells and have so far built up 8 good ones and still have many many more in the pile  ;D

At the mo I now have JLR, MB Star, BMW ICOM(yet to be loaded), VAG Com, plus Generic Delphi and the Snap On Solus Ultra and WDS :)
No one locally can do decent diagnostics, so they send it all to me :)

Back to the Fiesta, I also bought a brand new Fob Type Key Case, with a blank blade, with good s/h Ford Circuit Board and 4D63 Chip, £20, again should be here Friday, I will then program both key Fobs with Solus, and pop there existing Key blade in the new one, then they can just get the "New" blade cut next time they go to Inverness ;)

So I will hopefully have it running when I get the bits later in the week :)

Many Thanks,

Cheers for now,

Dave

Hi Paul,

Big thank you, Transceiver fixed it, plug and play ;) Car now starting fine with original key :)

The new key however, programmed the Radio Central locking no sweat, but the Snap On went through the motions of Coding the chip to PATS, but right at the end it reported an error, tried this 3 times, 20 minute wait each time  :'( no dice, so I've swapped the HDD from the Jaguar to the Ford one in WDS now that won't work !! Came up with windows 98 screen, did feck all else, then screen black and 3 LED's on but won't do anything

They're taking the Car off for MOT later this week, I'll have to resolve the Key issue another time too busy for WDS messing right now

Cheers for now,

Dave

Hello Dave,

It maybe a good idea to buy a ELM327 with a selector switch and use Forscan.

At least the fiesta is running again.

Hi Paul,

They can't pick Car up until Thursday, and I have Delphi DS so I might see if that will do it.

Now I am doing more and more Various Car Coding work, Keys, Modules, Programming etc, I have realised the need for "Dealer Level Kit", also realised the bunch of shortcomings of Snap On.  Snap On simply does not do a lot of what they say it will :(

I currently have BMW INPA ICOM, VAG Com, MB Star, and next will be JLR ;)

I have looked at IDS, but the various subscriptions needed work out expensive, and I'm not certain how much IDS will do off line ??

What is Forscan ?? is it just a Code Scanner or does it do Module Programming ?? Subscription or Offline ??
I have ELM lead with switch with BMW stuff ;)

I left the WDS on all night, and came out this morning, it has got past the Windows 98 Screen now, but now shows Error Code 2217, I'm going to do digging in a minute, I've got a funny feeling this may be Batteries, which I expect I'll need to replace as it's been powered down for so long ;)

Cheers Dave

2217 means indeed the battery is defect. Even on normal power if there is a defect with the battery you get this fault.

Forscan is software. you can find it here: http://forscan.org/

To program the pats or the new codes for the keys you need a extended license.

Dave2302

Hi Paul,

OK, signed up for FORScan Forum, will wait to get activated, I think I will go with this, pay for the licence, I have a spare Dell to put it on to add to my collection of Dealer Level Machines ;)

Bearing in mind the age, size, Windows 98 etc of the WDS, I think I'll get it up and running again, and then sell it all as a package ;)

So, what lead to buy, (best cheap one), or might it work with the BMW INPA USB lead with switches ??

Do you have any Idea if FORScan will flash my modified .bin files directly to my 24V BOB Puma ECU, or will I still have to use the J3 port Chips and my clunky old software from way back ??

Just curious lol ;)

Cheers Dave

A ELM modified 327 can be found under 20 pounds on eBay. Forscan ment for Ford and the sub brands.

You can change the configuration and programming with the extended license.
