boa engine oil ?

Hey all
Any thoughts on upgraded oil choices for my boa its na, I'm considering millers nanodrive 10w50

Ford recommends 10W30 oil semi synthetic.

I've used 5w40 fully synthetic in mine for yeas with no problems

yes ive been using 10 40 semi for a while with no issue that im aware of, but im thinking its not a new as it used to be and I will probably be pushing it harder now and in the future

Also I noticed the oil temp is going above 90c in the summer with normal driving so its probably going to hit 110 or more easilly if I thrash it for more than a couple of minutes much more in summer
so im not convinced 10-40 semi is sufficent protection
to my understanding 5w40 makes more sense than 10w30 but then I thought ford recommended 10w40

Officially Ford advised 10W30.

The difference between 10w30 and 10w40 is the thickness of the oil at operating/high temperatures, at which 10w40 is thicker than 10w30. Using 10w30 oil in cold weather will help reduce excessive oil temperatures and drag as the engine warms up. Using 10w40 oil in the summer will help the oil stick to internal components in high temperatures, avoiding the wear and tear from metal-to-metal contact between moving parts.

The only difference between 10w30 and 10w40 oil is their thickness at engine operating (hot) temperatures. They will flow at the same rate during a cold startup since the starting viscosity is "10" for both formulations.

I used 10W40 without problems (with the oil/water cooler in place and a decent radiator).

yes your explanation fits my understanding, the other thing that had me thinking of that millers was in the blurb saying it was designed for older performance engines designed for 10-40 but its probably overkill so i'll get some 5 or 10 40 instead cheaper too
