My 909 3 Door

OK,  I'm having a go at uploading some pics of my sierra.

I got it out of the garage and gave it a good wash yesterday.




Then after a wash.




If this works I will have a go at uploading a few more of the underside.

very nice looking sierra.

even with that dust on it, it looks cleaner than my mustang at the moment and i did wash it, last friday and again saterday morning because all the dust thats falling from the tree's. i wash it and 2 hours later its was not black anymore but yellow :angry: :angry:

Hmmmm that is very nice. :mellow:

A proper motor sport one then, does it have the double thickness floor & extra bracing.

Worth some that bare shell alone :o

Thanks Dave. No double floor, it was as light as a feather empty.
May have been a very late one as the bulkhead appears to be a saff one.

Ok, a bit of history on getting this car to where it is now.

About 20 odd years ago bought this 1984 4i had 3 door wheels grill bonnet and some interior and a stock 2.8 mfi.





Started fitting the front bumper and arches and priming it up and found it really needed wings and sills and rear arch work  :( not good it wasn't really that old at the time, maybe it lived near the sea at some point. I really wanted to cut the rear window too but was getting to be a whole load of work lol. At the time I had a mk1 RS2000 and a Mk4 escort van (pics later, I was still at home then lol) too much work to do on them, and had previously seen the 909 shells for sale  :wacko: why not....

Flicked through motoring news and found one in Bulith Wells in Wales at a Ford dealer who had started using 4x4 saphs and wanted rid of his spare shells. Road Trip with a borrowed trailer and returned to London with it  ;D ,really looked at it and saw more and more stuff not on it :unsure:. No battery tray or seat brackets, fuel tank brackets, towing eyes front or rear, seat belt fixings ,rear spring bump stop towers, handbrake or brake hose clips. On and on  :rolleyes: they wanted it light  :wacko:.







The 4i was a daily at the time so I couldn't use stuff off it. So down to the breakers for some bits and a seatbelt shop for threaded plates for the belt anchor points.



Got all the bits on the shell then some seamsealer, bare minimum. Then put it on it's side and painted the underside.

A bit more

So got all the top side painted myself and then fitted it up with all genuine cosworth bits. At this stage it was all stock 4i running gear.

Once it was buffed up I was pleased with the results :mellow:

First pic of it all together after some long days and all nighters.

Then buying a house took over so



The mk1 RS2000 had to go :'( This was a serious tool, all steel avo spec shell yep even the arches. Full cage, full custom wood pack and velour seats. Powered by 2.2 all steel pinto built up from a cosworth block thats way stronger, race spec head and cam 48s. LSD 2.8 struts vented discs five speed t9 2.8 box with modded input shaft. It would pull to 8000rpm it was an animal  :wacko:.





The sierra was slow, real slow but reliable, the next problem is behind the sierra  :rolleyes:

Boats :rolleyes: really got into boats and jetskis after leaving home.



Restored this one and Tuned it to 180hp prop power good for 70mph, anyway it's gone now and retired to racing up rivers (was offshore) in Germany .The guy posts his burn ups on youtube if anyone wants a link just ask.

and in 1999 bought this ski. The one on the left.



Still have this tuned from 75hp up to 115hp water injection the lot lol thats plenty, and juicy to  :laugh:

The sierra was then tuned with a fresh 2.8 with heads, cam, timing gear pump and scorpion stainless exhaust k and n.
Then a mate was selling his sprintex supercharged 4x4 the new owner didn't want the supercharger  ;D Happy days the sierra got what it had been waiting for  ;)



This was a bit of a headache tbh so rich at idle then real lean up top but it did go well. Had to get a 4x4 cossy back axle next and 3 door cossy front discs hubs etc. Then the house took over for years and years all money and time was sucked up, but I managed to keep it locked up dry in the new garage.

Next time the rebuild begins. All comments welcome

Guess what yours is not in there!, it's a 1993 list so maybe yours was no longer around.

Cheers Dave , I heard they did a later run before the saff got homologated, don't know how true that was but it would explain the fuse box needing to be a saff one.Wish I had got a few ecos shells they are worth ££££ now  :'(

I'm putting some hours in at the mo it is getting there I will try and do some more updates soon, but I think I will have to move back my Dave Walker (Emerald) day  :rolleyes: :'( Let down on my port flanges and a need to get sleep every night  :unsure: lol

Yes there was a later run of 3 door shells. It was to fill the motorsport orders. The rally and circuit boys were wanting them. Ford had by this time got rid some of the presses. The bulkhead was one. But the saff one fitted so in they went. Think there are so other changes to, I'll try and find out.

Not sure if its a straight fit, but the hole is the same shape.
If your looking to change a bulkhead its not a small job. As it requires the lower screen section out as well. It one reason why i only cut a section out to fit a RHD part into my 3 door.

Cheers on my car Regis ;D Very nice boat mate  ;) Have you got any specs on it? It looks very expensive and fast, I was into the budget end and offshore, I did race quite a few really expensive boats and dished out a few red faces  :mellow:

This boat with th name Scotty G-17 won the Gold Cup in 1929 its an hydroplane with a 3 step hull, very fast but unlikly to turn (almost no V in the hull)
It was never restaured just well maintened.

When I see this boat I think it's th only boat which looks well made as good in its waterside as in its air side. (sorry for my poor english)

Ok little update on this, as it's more than a year behind  :rolleyes: .

So all the running gear was pulled off and stripped down, the rear beam, swing arms, anti roll bar and clamps, pump cradle, beam brackets, front crossmember anti roll bar and clamps all where set away for blasting and powdercoating. The first company used a really light grey it looked like primer  :'( so had them redone in a darker metalic grey (phoenix). While all this was being done all the bolts where being blasted and zinc coated. Also ordering new parts, list got longer and longer :rolleyes:

Ordered and fitted all new poly bushes with stainless inserts.


new droplinks are no longer available for a 3 door so saph ones where bought and the new bushes pressed out and fitted in the old links.


The drive shafts where stripped down and cleaned, all cv's washed out all old grease. Then painted and re assembled with new cv boots and re packed with fresh cv grease and 12.9 bolts.




Diff cleaned externally only, as it was ok and think it's gonna need a gripper or a quaiffe quite soon. Then repainted even the bolt heads  :rolleyes: is that sad?












On the front decided to keep the anti roll bar but fit rose jointed lower arms from compbrake again polybushed it all and painted it before fitting.

No, whats sad is when you see rusty bolt heads on an otherwise beautifully refurbished car ;) whats even sadder is when rusty bolts round off when you try to undo them. Nah, I'll let you know if you start doing sad things mate ;D

I didn't appreciate all that had been done when I came over last - it was all a bit much to take in in one inspection.... the work youve done is real quality :mellow:

and the other colour was not classy, I couldn't live with it.

Looked at that boat nice  :angel: all original wood, stunning! The engine was 750cubic inches that's 12.29 litres for 60 + mph what they say ( it must be faster ) , my old one the hull was 1973 with a 1986 2 litre V6 2 stroke that was 70 + mph . The technical improvements in 50 years is stunning  :o But respect to the old skool  :mellow:

Very nice job there Regis I bet  :mellow: some nice stuff on there website. When I have time I will load up some pics of the gearcase mods I did and the transom height and the props I used (surface piercing). You will understand better than me there pros and cons for rough and smooth water, bow and stern lifting qualitys by blade design. There was no luxury in it just race seats and a foot throttle oh and a very hungry fuel tank 16 gallons an hour at WOT, lucky the sea isn't that smooth so your only on the gas just over half the time  :wacko:
