i have a nagging problem with my bob engine , always smells rich on fuel , well i confirmed that today borrowed some time at a mates and used 3 scan gas readers , all shown car running far too rich , was getting average co of 7.1
and hc of around 600  we also had a tina with a boa parked up and that gave results of co 2.9 and 300 !!?!?

what the ......  is going on , we swapped ecu's and air flow meters just to check with no difference , also tried to adjust the adjuster in the throttle housing but made sod all difference , could it be the lambda's ?

please help im really piffed at it atm ....

It could be the lambdas, but most of the time its a vacuum leak or a leak in exhaust header gasket / down pipe or the fuel regulator leaks internally.

In a rare case its the injectors or the maf sensor but in that case the engine would not run decent.

if i go looking for vac leaks where best place to start with ? it had new inlet gaskets , new exhaust gaskets , it just seems whatever adjust ment u make it returns to the same reading after a few minutes , it always starts on the button , idles ok just shit emissions , and stinks of rich running ,
the last time i tested the lambdas i had 12v to one and 0.5 to the other , so obviously ripped out loom  resoldered and double checked everything and got 12 v to both sensors but still problem persists should i replace the 3 inlet joiners the rubber couplers and the o ring sleeve at the back the engine ?

thanks

The signal from the lambdas is between 0.2 volts and max 1 volt. Not 12v. There should be only 12 volt for the lambda heather.

If there is a leak somewhere, the ecu sees ( lambda signal ) that the mixture goes lean and starts to make the A/F richer. Adjustments will not help. In this case there must be a leak somewhere.

Use carb or brake cleaner on all sites of the seals, nuts, hoses ect.

sorry meant to say was not getting steady 12v supplyfor  the heaters was shorted out but resolved now ,
was getting signal only 0.5 max , now its a max 1.2 ?!

will have another look tomorrow  thanks
