getting back up and running after 6 years of standing

right guys,

i'm starting a treatment in two weeks witch should give me a bit more energy to do something on my car (4i), and i have the idea of getting her on the road and mot'd again.

after 6 years a lot needs to be replaced, but can anyone think of anything i didn't think of?

first, the engine runs, but needs its timing adjusted as i took out the dizzy for clearence on refitting the engine mounts, but sparks, fuel, all those are okay.

battery is really dead and needs replacement
alternator needs replacement, got that one laying around, only needs pully change

coolant, waterpump, thermostat? it had water inside for quite some time, but is it enough to pull the lower rad hose off and get a waterhose in the system to flush it? i'll put modern coolant in, but what kind? is there somekind of coolant better for the cast iron block?

gaitors on the steering rack
brakehoses? i haven't seen those in a while, so i'm not sure in what nick they are?

change oil, filter and gearbox oil / rear oil seal on the gearbox, box was heavy shifting before i stored the car

window wipers and all those things like check lights and such.

tyres, not that much in a hurry, got plenty of wheel laying around and im not bothered if i get my 4i MOT'd on focus ghia wheels with michelin energy savers on it.

anyone with more tips? it has some minor rust spots but the sills are still okay!

After 6 years of standing still I would replace the oil and coolant and check everything.

Flushing the cooling system is a good idea. I would use a cleaning solution and let the engine heat up and let it run for a while. Let it cool down and flush it.

what kind of cleaning solution can i use? i know top end treatment stuff becouse i used that on my focus a while back (made my engine almost like a new one!), but i dont know of anything for the coolant system?

when i bougth the car it has been standing for 7 years, didn't have much work on it then, only a few miles and a few good hard brakes, fresh oil and filter and a few times a good warmup to lower the CO and get the injectors clean.

btw, found a complete 2.9 inlet with everything attatched to it exept the complete loom, 50 quids and two blocks away

Might be worth giving the electrical systems a check over, if its been standing a while as damp or mice may have got at the cables

You could use Wynn´s Cooling System Flush or similar.

If you have dishwasher cleaner, that would work as well.

i've got some minor electrical issues, brake light warning is on exept when you apply the brakes, and the control lights in the centre of the dash does'nt work that well, so i'll have to clean the earth connections and such but it starts and runs, but the battery is really dead and the alternator to (doesn't charge, the light on the dash stays on) so i have to replace them both

I mean the stuff you use to clean the dishwasher it self. How ever they cost the same as a good cooling system flush so I would go for the cooling flush.

if i can find it on the island... didnt find it today, but i'll have another look.
did do some work today, but not much luck, my engine mounts dont line up with the front subframe, and somehow my alternator pullys aren't the right ones. i have a double one, about 5,5 cm in diameter, while the single ones i have are about 7 cm, so i'm in debate what to use, becouse on the original engine the powersteering has a double pulley and the alternator one, while the tuned engine has it the other way around...
