Well My scorpio moved the furthest it has in two months this morning, all the way to the MOT center.

It's probably going to fail. But with 10 days for a free retest and a £45 fee I should be able to sort any minor bits and get it roadworthy again.

I assume these two or the rigid lines on the arms.

3.6.B.2C Nearside Rear Flex-Flex brake pipe corroded
3.6.B.2C offside RearFlex-Flex brake pipe corroded

This ?  Typing error?

3.6.B.2C offside Rear  Frount-Flex brake pipe corroded

Arse!

Offside Rear Chassi Leg Subframe mounting excessive corrosion

I suspected these may fail as they have rubbing damage

4.1.C.1a    4 x tyres which

Argh!

2.4.C.1A  Incomplete Coil Spring

Not sure on this one?

2.2.B.1H Nearside front ( drum stick ) steeting arm has relative movement at it's fixings?

And they did not do the emissions as they said there was a large leak at the fannymould.

So not a great result.

glyn

does drum stick refer to the rack /pinnion arm coming out of the rack?..glyn

TwinTurbo

"Drumstick" sounds like it might be the outer tie rod end??  I guess that kind of looks like a drumstick

Then again, I guess it depends on whether they are referring to a drumstick you eat instead of one you bang on drums with......

TwinTurbo

god knows, I thought at first it may be an ARB droplink. but I wonder now..

TwinTurbo

Yep track rod, inner ball joint has movement.

Chassis leg needs welded on inner face.

Brake likes have flaking paint but don't look bad! still can't work out what is ment by fronunt flex pipe? the rigid lines look fine there. And the spring has snapped maybe 1" off the end of the bottom coil.

Dave

Actually that is not to bad.

Cheap but a bit of work involved.

Good job your a DIY man
Dave

TwinTurbo

It would be easier if the MOT man ( normal guy was ILL ) could put down accurate information!

Looks like the rear beam will need dropping for the chassis welding.

fordparts do the track rod for under 40.

when i had the fester in for it's mot he said my front drumstick had a bit of play in it i persume he ment the tie rod

spanner

Well I been 25 years in trade and never seen anyone call a track rod end a drum stick. Plain stupid that is when the correct failure clearly states EXCESSIVE PLAY IN A TRACK-ROD END BALL JOINT.  He can't even have selected correct failure for it other wise it would have incorperated the text above plus any additional wording he chose to enter.

I wonder if he's meaning the inner end of the arm at the knuckle under the gaitor boot. If so he should have selected INNER TRACK - ROD.

Is it power steering Rob? wonder if the numpty had the sense to check for play with engine running?

TwinTurbo

There's defo play in the inner joint the wheel has definite movement that is not in the TRE.

£38 for a replacement arm from FordParts.

The guy was shipped in from west cumbria to cover illness. God knows why he could not work the system.

aint many motors you won't find a bit of play there to tell the truth. Have you checked it with engine running Rob? Thats how it should be checked if it's power steering. At end of the day the mot book states EXCESSIVE play and if when wiggling steering wheel slightly the road wheel movement is positive it can hardly be classed as excessive. More pass & advise but one testers opinion varies from next sadly. The usuall thing these days COMMON SENSE is no more.

doglegsxr

is the inner track rod easy to replace not done an inner one before outer ones were easy enough, but as keith said may be down to there not being any pressure there with the engine not running. still mean to jack the fester up and try that with ignition on to see if the play goes away, probably the next mot will have come back around again by the time i check it then again the tester will have forgotten by then lol :D
