Hullo, guys, i've been absent for a while, was gutted my 24v Cortina caught fire and didn't really have any motivation left, I've been smoking around in a selection of old Mercs and thinking about what (if anything) to have a go at next as i'm pretty potless these days and a bit useless at anything physical due to my back being shagged.

Anyway, got me mojo back so i've taken on a new project.

This is me collecting my van

This is how it looks now,

(Should look like this)

I have plenty of pics the previous owner took of its current state,

This is how he found it,

Basically its a very sound van for its age, it has an issue with the bottom of the rear doors,

the bulkhead near the servo,

offside inner sill,

the offside wheel tub,

and the radiator panel,

pretty solid elsewhere, steps are lovely, it looks like there may be a small repair needed in the cab floor where the top of the step meets the wheel tub, but other than that she's lovely.

Current plan is to remove the pinto and fit the 8v 2.0i from a Scorpio along with an MT75 and as much of the luxury goodies from the granny I can get working, possibly even the dash and instrument pack.

Due to the the weather there hasn't been much happening with the van, decided to start pulling the interior to bits as its all gonna be modernised and converted from a full on camper into a day van as although the interior was ok, it would never have been nice, after 30 years the chip board furniture is tatty and it just looked really dated and well used, while i'm all for retro looks on the outside, I like nice and comfy and smart on the inside. :D

She started out like this on the inside

The donor is here now,

Got the engine out today, nice and easy on a transit as the front comes right off,

empty for now,

lots or room under here, its only gonna house a 4 pot and 5 speed but access round the lump is always nice.

took the servo off to have a better look at the hole I need to repair,

theres a little bit the other side as well thats had some rust eater or something on it, I had a good puggle with a screw driver both sides,

Luckily neither side turned out to be a huge rotten hell hole.  I was toying with the ide of taking the vent thingy for the heater off to make it easier to repair but the metal is completely solid on the inside other than the small holes, I gave it a damn good prodding from inside to try and make some more holes.

But this is all there is,

I think i'll just chop out the rusty bits and have a go at welding in some fresh steel with the vent still attached and see what happens.

I've got a Toyota MR2 gear change linkage i'm hoping to hook up to the  MT75 and mount on the dash as the cars gearbox has the gearlever way to far back and i cant fit a long cranked gear lever as there be a seat in the way.

mk2 cossie

nice looking little project there

liking the idea of the remote gear change too, very ingenious

Leebay

Welcome back fella.......good looking project   I`ll have alook in the workshop I`m sure I`ve got some mk2 transit spares kicking about somewhere as my old man had loads over the years. They might be of some use to you rather than gathering dust.
