Yeah, I have a Granada crossmember lol!

Seems to be more type 9 crossmembers available on e-bay than than MT75, Ill try and pick one up,

Good job you asked i only knew this as my mt75 came with the granada mount,ebay is funny with the type 9 mounts you don't see one fore ages then loads turn up at once so i paid nearly £50 for one in the past !

Well it's good to know that the type 9 will fit - assuming there is no difference in an estate shell in the tunnel to that of a Saff? All late mk2's are meant to be the same?

What year is your estate shell?

Its an 89 plate and has the auto and 4wd mounting point further back too.The only one to watch is the 2wd cosworth shells as these have the t5 style mounting points which are angled i believe.

Mine is the flat one the same mount as t9 for this shell the angled t5 saff one didn't fit , I should have checked before it was blasted and I painted it lol never mind it sold at ford fair  :rolleyes:

Cheers for the info fella, lookin' forward to yours being completed, shame about the struts but your not far off. I like it - everything looks clean and fresh.

By the way, where did you get the solid bushes for the gearstick cradle?

The bushes pal were another ebay bargain of £5.20 lol the 4x4 ones fit 2wd cradles  ;D

Did a little more today while I'm waiting for a few bits thought i will start sorting the rusty bits out like the bubbling rear arches and the spare wheel well

Bad repair no wonder the rust comeback through !



Little bits of rust bubbling through on the rear wheel well so with a padded sanding disc i have started to take back to the metal ready to prime and paint, its the boot so its only going to be a spray can job which will be good enough



Some of the spot weld too were rusting up so blasted them but then the girlfriend came around and halted play !



The old boot panels were suffering from the tin worm but i managed to get a good second hand set from my lucky auction site as of late



The new ones look much better i think,i will also be making my own carpet and re trimming all the shitty grey side panel and tailgate panels so it looks nice and fresh



The suspension shock top mounts are hidden underneath the black cover as its an estate to keep the boot nice and spacious. Nasty grey trim.... :(

I used Escort Cosworth Shocks in my Granada hubs, half done/doing a Sapphire empty shell with all the guts from a rotten 24v Granada, used everything - like a re-shell.

But then I bought a very good 24v engine attached to an XR4x4.

So now I plan to undo it all and kind of start again.  :laugh:

The other thing with the escort cosworth shocks is that the lower spring cup actually sits higher up than the sapphire shocks to give better clearance for the escos wheels/tyres without rubbing not a lot of people know that lol !

I know that, Dojj told me - that's why I bought some, as you will know you need 4x4 struts to fit in the Granada 24v hubs. I got the Escos ones if wheels change in the future.

Your the only person I have seen refer to them as having a lower spring cup. The spring cup sits higher - as you also write

But I suspect, as you have touched on in other posts, you/I would have to consider that using the exact same spring in each of the different struts would perhaps give different results?

I did say the escos Lower spring cup sits Higher up than the sapph ones lol. Good picture shows the diffence spot on even the springs are a lot different too

After you asked this i went into the garage and fired it up and all is working even the idle valve and it now idles on its own, i have put it down to the dodgy engine loom connector plug not making good enough contact previously hence the power would drop off when too much load was applied  ;)
After the engine fired into life the oil pressure light went straight out which was reassuring after the bearings were replaced.
On the vid please note the exhaust have not been welded yet so it is a bit of a poor sound



My makeshift oil pressure switch lol as my clocks are not fitted to the car they are in doors as I've changed the tacho !

Using an 89 xr4x4 rev counter that has a pot on the circuit board so i may be able to adjust it if it is out but i haven't tried it yet so don't know if it will work

Have done a little more thought i would retrim the rear arch covers boot lid cover and rear of the seats as the horrible shiny grey final they are warped in look very old and tatty.
The cloth is pretty good stuff and the results are amazing,only managed to cover the boot cover but think it will freshen the car up a treat

With the right fabric its a walk in the park these are the first things i have ever covered and took about 2 hrs to do the lot  ;)

Jut make sure you glue one edge first so you have an edge to pull against and push out and glue as you go  ;)

Just finished off the exhaust today, probably the most awkward as i have little space in my garage to do anything  :(
but its done and its very quiet, the fuel pump is louder which i think i may make an enclosure for to drown out the noise.

Been ages since i last welded about 10 years or so ago so not great and I'm using co2 gas no argon





Engine now sounds quite sweet but does need new spark plugs as it has a tiny misfire not really noticeable.
Nearly there with this project just the finishing touches here and there.

Cheers Ade , just cost me £100 in total for the bearings and gasket kit.

Just covered the back of my seats too in the rear and I've still got about 2 square metres of fabric left too,the fabric though is not suitable for a boot matt so will have to get some stronger fabric to do that all in the retrim cost £50 in fabric and it came with 3 tins of glue  :mellow:

Honestly that's looking pro to me, and Ade's right - I think you could do head linings easily by the looks of it and make a few quid  :laugh:

Just got them from my local engine machine shop they are king bearings and have had lots of good reviews. For 2 sets i paid £95 roughly.

The 89 4x4 rev counter works it reads little high by a couple 100 rpm but it works and i know it can be a pita trying to get a set of clocks that work so I'm happy  ;D
