Cool. I was told only 24v rev counter works. Handy to know.

TwinTurbo

Mines a xr4x4 12v counter and seems fine.

It all depence  how made the rev counter, vegas or milla.

It has to do with the sensitivity off the rev counter.

I found on the capri forum:

Nice little diagram i would have used it if i had not been given a set of gauges for doing a boa loom for a chap off here. Its suprising though the different type of tacos there are for the sierra some have threads with nuts on like i have and others have the push fit pin connection to the cluster. Even the layout of the back of the clocks vary 3-4 different layouts maybe more.Glad i don't have to mess around with it though.

Been quite slow on the car as of late but as i need to spend a few more £ on suspension I've started to get rid of this tin worm which isn't too bad, most of the rot is around the rear of the car so today I've cut out the bad bits and fabricated some patches and welded in place

Boot had a little rust patch on it so cut it all out

Tacked in

And ground ready for filler

Bit of rot beneath the rear light where ford did not seam weld so guess where all the water sits

Quite slow as its not a continuous weld you tac leave to cool then tac ect

Though i would do the small bits before i fit the rear arches as my welding is a bit.........rusty !  ;D

Pulled the old horse out of the garage to give her a good clean and to check the ride height before i decide on the right size strut tops to make for the top mounts

I quite like how the wheels sit at present apart from the rear but nothings been done there yet

Getting some slight scrubbing when near full lock any ideas why ? could the tracking be causing this if it is out too much ? the front end including the power steering rack is from the granada cosworth apart from the struts they are escort cosworth ones.

mick

looking at the front the tyres may just be too big.............. :)

whiteestate

I don't mean rubbing I mean scrubbing where the inside or out side wheels do not turn in the correct arc so one wheel will drag on the road as its not the correct angle for the arc radius

This body work lark is hard graft but I'm persevering lol got the drivers side rear arch on and in filler but have to do the other side and both inner arches too  :(

New arch on

2nd coat of filler as a few minor imperfections !

looking closer at the inner and outer sills it looks like I'm going to have to do some work here but it will be ok for an mot but its only going to get worse so these will be done next.

Not even done a thing in the last couple of weeks works been so busy I've been on call pretty much one to two weeks on call 24 7 so not much is happening on my spare weekends apart from rest and having my social fun lol but that just life you can't work flat out on your cars it drives you mad otherwise !

It looks really well on the Granada rims, I think they suit the estate shape better than the hatch.

Better to do it right mate, but there is never enough time  :'(

This is my problem - but most of the time it doesn't bother me - it'll get done one day!

whiteestate

Haven't posted in a while but i have a couple of weeks off so my plan is to get the car road worthy with and get it mot'd.
Got to rebuild my gearbox, weld new sill skins on and weld new inner sills and new bottoms on the front wings then after its resprayed I'm going to blitz it with waxoyl everywhere i can lol !
"Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear"

whiteestate

Made a start today on repairing the inner sills a little rot to cut out but overall shouldn't be too bad a job

passenger footwell no rust on drivers side which is odd

same issue on the tunnel on both sides this is because of the shitty cavities where ford layered the steel together

Drivers side inner sill is the worst

"Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear"

Lemon-Ade

That don't look to bad, keep up the good work.

Good stuff.

Had all that done on my Saff, still to get someone to finish it!

Keep it up

whiteestate

Waiting on my outer sills now but tomorrow I'm in the machine shop to make my front strut top mounts much like these .....

i picked up some 7'' steel bar which weighs as much as a small car and i will make it a 5 stud mount pcd for my eccentric mounts. I will only be able to move the standard strut about 10mm before it will interfere with the inner turret but that is a hell of a lot in terms of geometry adjustment if i need more then i can fit coilovers.

With the rear there is not that many options so I'm considering fitting the standard setup by welding in the sapphire rear turrets, wishbones and then coilovers.

your mid sills will be shot as well more than likly, they are actualy the main culprit of the rotting ( well appart from the genius idea of running the sunroof drains out into the sills.)

Funny enough they are not, just drivers side front corner behind the wing and the rear by the subframe and passenger side sill needs a little work but no where as near as bad as the drivers side. I think it was parked on a slight angle through all weather so nearside is worse.
After its all done i will be wayoyling it in the sills periodically one thing that should be done on sierras they all go in the same place.

Spent 5 hrs of today machining my strut tops out of 7" billet steel and tomorrow i will drill the holes for the spherical top mounts nearly ready for all my welding to be done next week to finish the car woo hoo !

Nice! Real nice

whiteestate

Turrets all finished and welded in on both sides inner and outer quite pleased with the result but i did cock up i should have drilled a 6 hole pcd rather than a 5 hole oops but thats ok

"Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear"

whiteestate

Last section of the inner sill being done all joints butt welded so no lap joints that can cause water/air traps not going to grind the inner welds back on the inside sill as it will at least give a little more meat and its not going to be seen.

Well done, keep going can't be much left to weld now!
Dave

mk22door

Yeah top work, when your done you can finish mine lol

whiteestate

Cheers chaps I'm hoping to get it done tomorrow but only the inner sills will have to put the outer sills on in the evenings after work  :(
"Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear"

whiteestate

More welding and i think I'm ready to kill myself getting closer but not close enough

Drivers side sill tacked into position

Had a little rust behind the front wing so i cut the bottom off to get access and repaired setting fire to the expanding foam but always have an extinguisher on hand !

At this rate it will be another year before its finished lol

Passenger side foot well had to be done as well as well as the left side seat runner mount

Also will this be acceptable for the mot being so close to the numbers ?

"Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear"

turboshed

coming along m8, that estate is going to weigh a bit more after you have finished ;D
As far as the welding goes aslong as it is seam welded they will be fine,if the weld was all the way round the chassis number then they probably wont give a toss anyway!
I welded a sierra for someone before and put a patch on the rear passeger floor pan, welded a plate from the inside, even though it was fully seam welded they wanted it welded on the underside aswell.......absoloutely no need,it was just a guy being a jobsworth tosser

Cheers pal its been a lot of graft tbh I'm going to grind back and underseal all the welds underneath the car so it can't be seen.
Im sure I've put nearly 20kg of metal into the car just got little patches here and there to do where you've got to remove the fuel tank to get to it ! another few weekends should have it sorted.
BTW the gearbox i had off you is ok i was stupid and hadn't fitted the dowels to the block now i have and i have no whine silly me  :'(
