Trouble is it's a rotter underneath so the good engine will come out and have the sump changed to go RWD and into Dag.

The 24v that we put in is 118,000 and I only drove it around a private workplace car park before buying the Granada, so I'm going to use the engine in the black 4x4 as it's in a known state.

Despite the low(ish) mileage I will check bottom end bearings and hope I don't find the plastic chain guides in the sump when it comes off. The main reason for buying the XR was for the low mileage engine.

My friend might save it after I have stripped it, but I aren't spending any money welding that up as well as Dag. No doubt the 2 door will want welding so two's enough!

And I just had the outer seat mounts done on the Mercury grey Saff!

Engine & auto box, wiring loom etc all removed, it's a rolling shell again  :-  But, hopefully over the next few months the welding will be done & I should have the sump off the 4x4 24v off and put a RWD sump on, maybe It will be on the road next year  :laugh:

Anyway, not much happening here.....

Sold loadds of stuff to buy another 2 door, which included the 24v alloys, so had to put these 7 spokes on



Still aint got the welding finished, fell out of love with it I think, I'd have to sell the grey to continue with this but I like it too much, too many Sierra's again. Two will have to go  :'(

Slight update lol

Dug the wiring loom out that was in my 24v XR4x4, ME and Scrag tried to make some sense out of it



Got it half in and sort of in position, which isn't bad seeing as I had only gone to drop it off after dropping kids off at a nearby Easter party.



A bit of luck and I might get to do something with this car this year.  :lol:

I was thinking as we were sorting the loom out and it was probably somewhere around 13/14 years ago when I had first seen this Saff and wanted to knock on the door, I think that's why I haven't quite let it annoy me enough to sell it on just yet?

Decided it was time for sorting out the floor pan inside of the Sierra, the last of the holes being welded up and sorted out.



Obviously I now regret the wiring loom being a bit in the way but too much of a ball ache to remove again, would have been a neater, easier job but it was carefully hung up out of way eventually.

Brushable seam sealer & etch primer went in and around.. blah blah blah.





I was wire wheeling all over the place, front and back inside, outside, any rusty scab really. Got right in the engine bay, slam panel, front box section



Engine crossmember got wizzed over and a dose of satin black



as did the er, the, you know, the thing (I'm tired + Heineken  :smt030 )



Tidying the Konis up too, they cleaned up pretty good, still pitted when you get up close but giving them a second life before they go, had a rethink on the Escos struts.  :-k



Then me & Scrag did a bit of a rattle can job on it all...



I ended up with the wrong filter in my mask so we had to push it outside





A couple of dents between the bumper & number plate pushed out & made good





Then pushed back into it's corner again,



Hopefully I'll some more time for it in two or three weeks, still a lot to do.

About six thousand years ago I ordered some flywheel bolts for 2.8 and a spigot bearing for the back of the crank

Well, two years later they arrived  :shock:  Ford are so shit lately!

I'd already been and bought a spigot bearing for a VW passat - happens to be the same  ;) 

Any way, part numbers for those who might need some

I-thought-id-have-the-annual-days-work-on-the-project-Saff- ROFL

Fetched-the-engine-down-in-my-mates-tranny-it-was-long-overdue-some-new-gaskets-etc.



Removed-the-sump-to-find-the-gasket-had-been-welded-on- :smt013



What-shouldn't-have-been-a-long-job-started-to-become-one-so-I-put-the-auto-flywheel-back-on-and-sat-it-on-its-end



Im-really-surprised-to-have-not-found-any-anomolies-in-the-sump-though-which-is-part-of-the-reason-I-wanted-to-look-in-it.

The-gasket-being-slowly-scraped-off took-over-an-hour,and-was-making-a-right-mess-so-I-removed-the-oil-pump.

Then bought a new keyboard.

The sump and oil pump were cleaned out with petrol,





New sump gasket was helped with a little sealant, it's meant to be good stuff.

I won't be surprised if the sump leaks somewhere as the half moons supplied by Specialised Engines of Essex were shit, in fact some of the gaskets/seals they sent seemed too big

Anyway, sump back on



And then flywheel and clutch fitted...



I am using a mk3 Granada turbo diesel kit, see how that goes
I've read a thousand different accounts of what bastardised franken clutch mixtures to use... clutch plate from this, pressure plate from that, got fed up of thinking about it and reading poeple arguing the toss about what is best... who knows it might not even work at all?

Box bolted up to the engine...
