As some of you know, I bought an XR4i in March, as a slow-time project.....

It had been stored for 12/13 years, and was originally a Ford demo, hence all the extras available at the time.....

The car has potential and this is why I bought it....sure it's not perfect, but it is 23 years old!

Pics to follow from when I got it....

Cra has done a few miles, but it was original throughout, including the unused toolkit!

Upon delivery at Barry's (Mr XR4i Spares Centre), the paintwork was dull so I cracked on that day and T-Cut the lot....BIG DIFFERENCE

Numerous parts have been replaced as well, and much hard graft by Mt Knobbly Knees....

someone getting their leg over.......lol

cleaning a few parts

new screen

door cards cleaned up, carpet pressure washed, engine bay had all the old engine oil cleaned off (prev owner has sprayed liberally to help keep rust away)

Tony

mean't to say anyone know of a decent used rebult lump? there was a real good one on ebay a few months back that went for £500'ish...

tiff

anyone fancy the car as a project ? otherwise will break or scrap

fluff

why break it??
there will be an engine somewhere -

I got 3 2.8 engines goin cheap glyn.dont think ther unleaded ,one is a mk 2 mind with 2.8 still in it only about 50 made before changing to 2.9

tiff

my source at Ford, who was involved with the XR4i and XR4x4 when they were new, says the late 1986, 1987 & 1988 2.8i XR4x4 Cologne engines COULD RUN ON UNLEADED.....this will no doubt be disputed, but I've known owners who have had these engines and the source is fairly reliable.....

a few more than 50 2.8's made before the switch over....

appreciate the pointer and post Glyn, but unsure at the mo, particularly with unknown history of units etc..

Cheers

All 2.8 could run on unleaded the early ones the timing was altered and every 4th tank full must have been Leaded, later ones some could some couldnt, only the ones stamped with the letter D or E  in the centre of the cylinder head could run on unleaded contiually.

My 2.8 died because of the unavailability of leaded fuel over here...  and i had an 87 model, so it was in the last year or so of the 2.8...   I even used a lead substitute (every 3rd or 4th tank)  and the heads still had severe VSR
