Bonnet is still frozen shut, just waiting for the ice to melt then i can get on with it. the snow has gone down to just half a meter now, so hopefully get started after Easter.
Right now trying to get the brakes back on the XR4i so i can have a little fun in that, getting bored of french front wheel drive

Ok progress has started on the scimitar, all be it slowly and not as i had first planned. I have imported the car from England to Norway, so the first job is to get its first time control done, like a MOT. But the car must be in the original configuration for this, so it has to go with the original engine in, which has a big end nock. So over to England with the crank i went 2 weeks ago to get it reground and bearings to suit, as these are not so easy to get hold of in Norway, I will be returning to England on the 20th to pick up the crank, and the BOB cams that i intend to fit to the 24v engine. Also i need to sorce some head lights from a left hand drive car so the beams point in the right direction.
Ok so Snow has all gone and the ground has firmed up enough to try to remove the car from its winter storage, so uncovered the car conected the battery and turn the key, engine turns over but no sign of life, so will try to get it started wednesday.
At work we have a football competition where you have to guess the results of the Prem Leaque in England over the season and i Have just won it this year so they have brought me an engine hoist with the prize money, so i plan to put that to good use soon.
I have taken a wall down in between the too small storage rooms next to my garage so this has given me a bigger work shop to work on the engines.
It is kind of frustrating to have to remove the Essex engine fix it put it in again, test the car then remove the engine. But thats the way the rules are here, so nothing to do about it but get on with it.
I hope to have the car ready to test buy the end of May, but i guess that depends on if i find anyother problems with the car.
I will take some pictures as things start to progress and post them here, to replace the ones that dissapeared from the old bb.

If you need any bit for the scim these people are really good, they stock almost every nut and bolt for most of the range. They are not cheep but can get things out to you quickly. Theres also scimparts netherlands they are really popular over there 0031-582-131308 although its probably no closer.

I was going to collect mine and start stripping it this weekend but i dont have a garage and the weathers bad so i rebuilt the suspension instead. I had everything except the stubs powder coated £25 the lot, (the brown stuff is wax oil). Most of the front is TR6 but you probably know that the rear is MK2 Jaguar.

I fliped the bottom wishbone arms ( wishbone at the trunion pivot bends up instead of down) this drops the front by 25mm, if you pack the wisbone damper mount off the wishbones further you can lower it more, 12.5 mm =25mm off the ride height. If you lower them to much you get really bad bump stear and it will be follow the camber of the road. On the back i have spax adjustable coilovers, they are really cheep for the scim and well worth it. No other brand is worth bothering with!

Just waiting for a few new bolts then its ready to go on.

I've had my car for ten years so if you need any help with scim side let me know.

i have already have spax adjustables on the car and the front was rebuit just a few years ago. i already have convered the diff in the back to a limitied slipper from a later jag. So just need to firt the engine and gearbox. when it has passed the first time inspection in Norway.
But thanks for the tips on spares places.

i was also the north Hampshire scimitar club noggin secretary for 4 years so i know a little about scimitars ;-)

Ah not a virgin then! I Thought as you were importing the car you were new to them,

Will sparrow is just down the raod from me, he has retired officially but still as lots of hard to find bits let me know if you need anything,

P.S.
Whats the diff out of they tend to get a bit rumbly on scims,

NorwayNick

to be honest cant remember which car the diff is from. My uncle ran a race car prep company and he did the diff for my father before i brought it from him.

autocad

i put a post on another site apperently "Any Salisbury 4HU PowrLok LSD from a Jaguar will fit the Salisbury 4HA axle fitted to SE5A - SE6B Scimitars.

That means any Jaguar from S-Type & E-Type to XJ-S"
with a spacer between the half shafts. That will be next on the shopping list. I have pulled the shafts out to do the bearings  (nightmare job getting them off the shaft)  before so changing the diff shouldnt be to much of a problem.

autocad

Hi how are you getting on with the projsect,

I made a template to work out how much i have to cut out of the bulk head last night. It seems that i need 25mm each side behind the alloy heat sheilds has to come out. berof the engine will fit.

I think you have more to play with as your 6 is wider than the 5.

Im just working through the suspension and breaks before i get on to the engine.

NorwayNick

well have had a look while i had the 3.0 out, and i think i only need to get about 10mm on each side, but i think im going to put the 24v project on hold for a year, as i have to get it through its import control into norway first.

Also have you looked into where the type9 gearbox shifter will come into the car, is it ruffly the same place as the original box?

autocad

That sounds about right i had a look again last night, 25mm behind the heat sheilds.

I have been using a type 9 for a few years, its in a similar place t the old box, my car was a 4sp with the german box and long long 3rd gear.

The stick exits the tunnel 340mm behind the facia on the 5a. I had to cut about 10 from the back of the console to make it fit. but its a great box.

I fitted the new front suspension and level the back this weekend, its now running 1in lower. MOT it next week i hope.

What breaks are you running quite tempted by these,[attachmentid=692]

ok so having taken the Essex engine out of the Scimitar and rebuilding the 24v i have for this car with the BOB cams, i have had a small change of heart, mostly due to the lack of money and also because i need to register the car in Norway before i can do any modifications. I have been completly rebuilding the Essex engine, i have had the crank reground and ballanced, with the fly wheel and front pullies on. Honed the cylinders and replaced the piston rings, all bearings including the cam bearings. Replaced the cam with a fast road Kent kam kit, put in screwin rocker posts and purchased a set of alloy timing gear and roller rockers.
i am waiting for the cam to arrive from the uk, but once that is here i can complete the engine.
I have taken the whole engine block to work with me and cleaned it in a chemical bath, the sonic cleaner, to get rid of any gunk in the water-oil ways, then had the engine coated in Jet aircraft exhaust coating, so now it is a nice shiny black, looks better than new.
But when i cleaned the heads up, i noticed that sometime in its past it had a head gasket change, and the person that owned the car before me fitted a different head, this would have been ok if it had not been from the older style essex with different shaped inlet ports. so i have to go pick up a new head from my fathers garage in the uk before i can continue.

NorwayNick

Ok so now i have nearly finished the engine rebuild, just the valve clearances to set.
