Tony

do remember to cut this pipe off
[attachmentid=994]
with this as it is, ya knacker the cam cover gasget and its a right bugger to get the cover off!!

also leave the cooler and extension on,, just loosen and spin out the way
[attachmentid=995]
once the 4x4 sump and diff is fitted this will all fit back on but will need to be angled back around 30 degrees.

going well chaps!!

ya can tell taps is well off,, 3 jacks?
i make do with one and piles of bricks

Super 12v

Nice one simon, coming along then

could i just refer you to this post of mine as I spotted something on the 12v that came out  can swap for the earlier 12v setup if need be.

Rob, if his not replied by tomorrow night I'll tell him you want them as his coming up the Garage, dont think he will need to swop for others as the 24V ones will fit.

Yes you can have them. As taps says the 24V setup is different.

Simon

Cool, well i wasnt sure if the engine had another home or not, but that would be brilliant. The early setup interfers and limits my oil cooler sandwich plate fitment. so it'll help alot with the new engine install

Many Thanks

Rob

I had hoped the timing cover would come off without removing the heads but despite removing all the bolts its stuck somewhere a the top of the V and will not come off.

Well I thought it might have been stuck on a dowl but no, Ford hide a bolt in the V that ya cant see with the thermostat housing bolted on

His knackered tensioner arm

rob
its normal for the N/S head/camcover to be messy like that,
remember, that one vents to the plenum and does get reverse pressure flow, they aint the best valves!!

the N/S vents to the air filter and never gets a return pressure

ow and thats the twin fuse box loom isnt it?.. ya can dump 99% of it tho

Would that explain why the o/s head is so clean compared to the n/s as well Tony.

Tony

rob, yeah, it seems the norm

This is looking good, keep up the good work chaps. Then once you finished you can come and start on mine

Beastmaster

yeah ,all the cam covers look like that, had me going at first, oh and you gotta love that sneaky little bolt up the back of beyond. speak to barry at4i as he has new h/d blade tensioners, be worth replacing all the chain guides as you got it in bits, check out e-bay as theres a guy on there doing complete gasket sets for about £70.00 unless you know better...if so let me know

The new Tensioner arm supplied by Barry XR4i spares is on

Timing covers back on

Water pump, front pulley and Crankshaft sensors all back on, got to get a new Crank pulley bolt, god knows why they use a stretch bolt for that.

Taps

Well after a very long Day Simes and I have got his car to this stage

Some more pictures now my photobucket account is working.

Timing cover and water pump backon as are the rocker covers plenem sump and diff

Flywheel on

More side shots

If you want to keep the paint on your rocker covers, don't steam clean them. Another job for later.

simes

Old engine and new engine

now mounted on the cross member

Choice of alternator

They are identical, both 90 Amp

But only one has the right pully

All the bits bolted on. BIG aint it.

simes

Right now in the engine bay before fitting the engine.

The EDIS 6 module

The dreaded EGR stuff.

Yes I know it's not quite straight

The vacuum pump for the cruise control behined the headligt.

Don't drill a hole in the washer bottle like I did.

Now the mounting point for the Air filter box

This bracket bolts straight into the holes that bolted the old box into. No drilling or measuring required.

The air box

This fits perfectly but you have to cut the lug off. I was going to cut a hole in the wing but decided it would be easier to bolt the lug to the wing and cut a hole in the box. Still to be decided.

Now back to the engine

Gearbox on, I'm missing pictures here Taps, so back of engine only

And the heat shield for the starter motor wires.

And engine in

Now the dreaded wiring loom

Lots isn't there.

Bit it splits into

The engine loom, the bit we want

the ABS loom

Everything else

Damocos

I take it the aircon will still work ok with the 24v ecu & wiring?

simes

The aircon wiring is part of the engine management loom for some reason. So I am keeping my 12V loom in place.
If you do that then you only need to connect two wires from the 24V ecu to the 12V loom then the air con will still work. (unplug the 12V ECU first though)

In my 24V loom I also pick up the VSS, KAM and Fuel pump relay connections from the 12V loom as well.

After that it's just two power connections and a couple of ground wires.
