hi out there,i am just starting on a project it is an engine swop for my tvr s1,it had the ford 2.8 cologne engine in it and im putting the cosworth 24v in it,as some of you are aware i have already had a lot of good advice, and the swop is underway,i have both engines out and i'm ready for picking up the headers hopefully this weekend then i will fit the engine in with the headers already bolted on it looks the best way,i don't suppose it will be a breeze, but if i do find any shortcuts i will post them .  [attachmentid=1106][attachmentid=1107]

Hi, good to see you've started the conversion. My S2 is still waiting for its engine transplant: Too little spare time. Keep us posted!

Cheers,

Ronald

hi out there well i,ve had a few ups and downs in my search fpr bits but i am getting there, looking at the engines side by side there isn,t much differance at all except for the obvious that is.
anyway i fitted the engine today and its nice and snug, ive had to take the rad expansion tank off,i will find somewhere for that to live later, ive also sent the wiring off to be sorted by the top man himself mob,i hope to hear he has recieved it over the weekend,at the moment i can't decide what rad to fit i have the original, and also the cossie which is alloy but would need some mounting work,i will keep you posted.

yes i got the loom

i think the standard rad will be fine,, the cossie tends to run cooler.
i seem to think mike used the standard one to.

great news about the loom tony. will i need to fit an oil cooler, or wil i gat away without it.

Tony

well i would try and use the cossie cooler, im sure youl be able to swing it around to fit somehow.
see if you can find a sierra header tank and that should fit around the brake servo area..
ow on that note, the servo,
the EGR will be removed on ya loom, the pipe that runs from the back of the plenum around to the EGR, can be cut and used  for the servo.

mind you could upgrade the servo to!!

im pleased you mentioned the egr valve because it is fed from the exhaust manifold, so can i forget about feeding it from the manifold !! what servo would i upgrade too
                             paul

Tony

paul

yes,, just forget about the EGR, its not going to be wired in any ways!

the brake upgrade i had in mind, uses the granada electric pumped master cylinder.
i know not to many have done it yet but it gives far better/ even brake pressures,  you can see the idea here

S1 update,i've had a few probs but i'm getting through them as and when,i decided to fabricate my own manifolds in the end,so here are a few shots of the work involved so far. I have documented all dimensions of every job so if anyone wants the info its here.[attachmentid=1310][attachmentid=1311][attachmentid=1312][attachmentid=1313][attachmentid=1314]

Tony

so how far has this got now?
i am planning to come up between x mass and new year fit the loom and start it up!!!
still ok for that?

Thats great news, the car will be ready,as i said i haven't had much time with because of different probs but i have documented it all and will post it asap.

rustynutz

The manifolds have changed shape because of the alternator,no big problem but i had to send the o/s one down behind it so as not to foul the belt.so i altered them both i've shot the n/s one but they're both the same.[attachmentid=1316][attachmentid=1317]

Just a quick update,i've made the down pipes up and after christmas i will invest in a pipe bender and make a cleaner job,get a new middle box and make a full system now i know how much it costs to have pipes bent.so excuse the state of the down pipes,i will keep you posted on the pipe bender in the new year,i've also included a shot of the alternator in place.[attachmentid=1321][attachmentid=1322]It also shows 1 down pipe with the lambda sensor in position.

cossiemk2

A mate of mine made manifolds from gaspipes/fittings for his 24v that's in his Vauxhall Chevette.

It's thick walled and has nice radiused bends in it and its easy to weld up.

rustynutz

The reason i mentioned the pipe bender is i was quoted 60 quid to bend the down pipes which i thought was a rip off! so thanks for the info i will look into it the gas pipe info, however the pipe bender new is only about 80 quid, and no i am not selling them!,i've seen it on the internet
thanks paul

rustynutz

Sorry for the gap what with christmas and all that ,i finally managed to put the car back together ie:exhaust, down pipes etc ,maddoldbugger came down this weekend, worked his magic on the loom and hey presto    he did a excellent job ,i haven't run it up to temperature yet  ,water hose and servo pipe to sort out, which i am hoping to cure this weekend and give it a run.
And last, but by no means least a a great big THANKYOU to maddoldbugger .

Tony

hi paul

ya welcome mate, glad ya like the loom,,, i didnt leave the huge bag off wires for ya

having a few probs with the charging side of things the alternator and starter motor are off  the cossie so on the starter motor there is 1 lead off  doing nothing,as for the alternator i have to connect the ignition and battery cables together to get the engine to start, but it slowly drains the battery it regesters 12 v dropping, if i put a switched live to the middle terminal on the alternator i get 14 v but when i switch the ignition off it carries on running.any ideas?
   cheers paul

Tony

paul

have you connected the relay for the ignition to the "ignition on" side of the switch?
if so run a wire off the big red wire to the altanotor, thus giving it live with ignition on!!

tony

tony
only problem is when i connect the alternator to a switched live , and switch the engine off the alternator sends voltage back down the same wire,so the engine won't switch off, having said that wouldn't that charge the red wire i couple it to???i know it will be something stupid, but its doing my head in at the moment.the car is ready to run but for the charging.
               thanks paul

Tony

the red wirs is turned off with ignition switch so should stop it. or better still fit another relay, using a feed off the red wire to control it

hi out there ,ive had the tiv running, and i am very impressed with it,when i first took it out it felt a bit calm up to around half throttle, but after i opened it up fully a few times it was a different story, to say that it is an improvement is an understatement, only problem i've got know is a slipping clutch, but only at the top end of the throttle, strange i know, anyway i took the clutch out and it looked fine a bit blue but plenty of meat on it.I bought a stage 1 clutch off ebay, and will fit it this saturday so i will let you know what happens,i will also have to move the alternator forward about 5mm no probs, and whilst the engine was out i heat wrapped the manifolds, will post result of new clutch asap.
               cheers rustynutz
