Hi, I'm new on this forum, but not new with projects.

Currently I'm working on a Ford Capri MK III, 1983, original it's a 2.3S V6, Stratosilver.

At the moment I'm restoring the complete shell, I'm working on this car for several years now (every now and then when I have the time and when I can set myself to work on it!).

When I purchased the car, it had the original 2.3 V6 in it, which broke down after about a year. Then I put a 2.8i in it, which was a huge improvement (160 BHP compared with the original 114 BHP makes a difference!)

For the future although, I'm planning to put a 2.9 24V BOA engine in it.
The plan is to upgrade the brakes first.

I could use some advice on the conversion, which brakesystem is recommended, which gearbox is the best to use (now I have a 5 speed type 9 box), what changes would have to be done to the propshaft etc.

greetings,

Capricoen

Hi Grimbo,

Thanks for the reply, but I know them already, I'm even a member already.

I'm thinking of using their brakesystem, it looks good to me.

But when I'm looking at the price of a gearbox, MT75 is what they recommend, I think its expensive.

Also I think, the propshaft has to be modified, its not clear to me.

So what I'm looking for, is advise from people who already have done this conversion.

Hi there......I have mondeo callipers with cossie 286x24 discs up front....I am also using standard 2.8 9" drums at the back with a standard 2.8 master cylinder and the brake pedal is very good......if you are going to fit a caprisport brake upgrade i would try and do it myself rather than paying their high prices...also I have had the mounting brackets modified as they stupidly mount them on the unmachined face of the struts

..my friend has a mk3 Capri running a BOA....if you use a type 9 box then you can keep the capri prop, but if you use an MT75 then you will need a custom prop made....a specialist job......my mate runs a type 9 and I think he has only replaced it once.....you could always add a Quaife or Tran X top plate to the type 9 to make it last a bit longer as it reduces flex in the box......

I have lots of photo's of my brake conversion if your interested....any other questions just ask mate...

Hi Caprifan,

thanks for your reaction!

I was already afraid of that, the propshaft I mean.

I'm very interested in the pictures of the brakesystem, do you have a drawing of the dimensions of the mounting brackets?

What do you mean with: you could always add a Quaife or Tran X top plate ?

Hi Coen

if you pm me your email address I will send you some pics.....

..i don't have dimensions but I might be able to get hold of some brackets for you...then you can source the rest of the kit yourself.....

..Quaife and Tran-X both make alloy top plates for a type 9 , basically they are thicker than the standard top plate on the type 9 so they add some rigidity to it , which reduces the flex caused by the extra torque from the 24v....the type 9 won't last forever but it should help it last a bit longer....

they look like this....(stole your pics Taps...hope you don't mind...)

regards

Chris
