Looks like a decent job. How much did it set you back? Did you strip original paint work back to bare metal? Looking at getting my capri resprayed at some point, its already had a respray over original paint. Think I will have to get it all stripped back to bare metal this time!!!

capri24v

cost £1000 nah was on top of the old coat, was silver before so its just a thicker paint job now hopefully help prevent stone chips a bit more

ianturbo

[attachmentid=1520]well sorted paint job , i,m just waitin for loom to get sorted then will be up and runnin!

capri24v

Finish looks mint on yours mate, whats it like underneath? im finishing putting mine back together today

ianturbo

it wasn't too bad underneath , had to put a few patches behind front wheels , spring hangers are good as are the chasi rails ! I am puttin bits to it while loom is being done !

Please could you tell me how difficult it was to reposition the battery in the wing. I'm willing to give it ago but my welding skills are limited and I don't want to make a dogs dinner of it! Did you use the original battery tray and how is the battery fixed? Thankyou

capri24v

wasnt to difficult, the main worry was whether the wheel would hit it because its lowered, havnt had any problems so far, no i didnt use the original battery tray just used fresh steel and worked out the dimensions, was a fair bit of trial and error, just take your time with it, might be an idea to practice welding before hand, the steel its fairly thin and its quite easy to burn a hole in it.

Alex

if you do do it dont forget to slap on a lot of underseal once you're done

ianturbo

i see off the photos you have used the 28 radiator , witch outlet have you used for the expantion bottle , the one from the rad or one from the thermostat housin ? if this makes any sence then its buy chance , been out all day watchin  F A cup !

350moggy

Mate that looks sweet

my 24v conversion is in full swing now i got the dohc rad mounted today and I am moving the battery tomorrow .I am trying to get every thing ready for the engine too go in next weekend ( I cant wait !!!)

What are the tail lights that you have on yours as i've been looking round the breakers for a while now for a set of round taillights but to no avail !

capri24v

expansion bottle is t peieced at the bottom of the radiator...if i remember rightly the originaly 24v hose came in a moulded t piece, originally i used that...again off the bottom connection on the rad

tail lights are from quad conversion...although with hindsight skyline lights are very similar and a damn sight cheaper...although i got mine on the cheap from a friend

JUst a quick update, gearbox is finally on its way out, 5th gear is pretty much dead, when selected some pretty strange grumbling sounds come from it which actually shakes the car a bit, strangely this doesnt happen unless the throttle is open, ie could be at 5k on overun and wont do it...anyway spoke to quiafe about there new uprated type 9...375bhp they say...ready in 6 weeks time, just gotta cruise in 4th till then

Gear box still hasnt arrived, Quaife have said it should be done within the month tho, which works out good, i have bought a eaton M90 off Tony MOB and ordered Mikey's (Boost Performance) inlet manifold which should arrive in about 3 weeks time, also got BOB camshafts in the post, which i'll hopefully be fitting next weekend and i have been in contact with Emerald and will hopefully be ordering their ECU sometime soon, just need a 2nd 24v loom to play with, once the inlet manifold arrives i can place the charger in my engine bay and "mock up" and some brackets, just looking at it i think i will probably place it on the passenger side. From speaking Cossiemk2 i am going to run 9psi on standard internals, using bigger injectors, and an intercooler, i was originally going to get a chargecooler www.chargecooler.co.uk there stuff looks really good, but the price tag was creeping towards £900 just for a cooler rad fan pump header tank, which isnt really needed when im only running 9psi, so I think i shall try to squeeze in the Pro alloy RS500 intercooler, there should be enough room in a capri :D also need a fuel pressure reg froma cvh, and to make up the inlet and outlet manifolds for the charger, i have a 3 litre carb air filter that iw as thinking of using on the charger because i dont think there is going to be much room anything bigger, but i shall see how it all looks once the charger is in place. Main concern is that i wont be able to get the car in for a mapping session at emerald before ford fair. Thats the plan over the next 6 weeks or so anyway. Will update some more once things start getting bolted on.

Phew what a night, just spent last 9 hours fitting BOB camshafts, what a night mare, took my time but somewhere i screwed the timing up   this resulted in my starting the process over, it was a case of..."its getting late, stick it back together and hope for the best" which was at about 10pm, finally finished at 3am    after taking it all apart again and doing it properly, all thats left is to sort out an oil leak from the tensioner. Also got an email from Quiafe saying that there new gearbox wont be available untill Sept 07, funny they told me March 07 back on Nov 06, what a waste of time, so im now looking to find a replacement gearbox, fit the S/C and get it all mapped before end of July

Just aquired BOA engine to drop into my Capri (at last). Have the whole wiring loom from the Granada and looking to remove the wiring required for the conversion this weekend. Question is: did you use the fuel pump relay on the capri or did you get rid of that and use the granny one?

capri v8 driver

robert,

use the granny relay, the fuel pump relay from the k inj is different and does not work whit the ecu because the fuel relay off the k injection is triggerd by the ignition.

Cor long time without an update...Have been flat out on car recently, fitted the BOB camshafts as i said back in May but the timing tensioner "broke" its the only word i can think of. Valves met pistons, head is ruined, you know the story. So after much looking around i decided to turn to the darkside and aquired a 2.0 cosworth turbo with T5 box and fit that. I'm now running a 4wd 200 block with a 2wd head with a T34 turbo, lightened flywheel, Group a coil, stage 1 chip, Rs 500 alu intercooler, high lift cams, n other fancy goodies, and i must say it shits on the 24v, once it hits boost its like a rocket, and thats with a mis matched final drive, it pulls 55 in 1st at the moment with standard rev limit, I have just taken the axle off to get it changed to a more sensible 3.75:1 this should make it accelerate even faster, providing it doesn't wheelspin to much. After the initial cost of the engine, i would reccomend it to anyone. Would just like to add i fitted this about 2 months, but had a little problem with a cracked cylinder head...fixed this with the 2wd head, then the camshaft tensioner stripped its threads, probably my fault. but had spare valves, now its all working its a complete animal. Waiting to come on boost is somethin similar to the 24v starting to "sing" so its something im used to, accept when it does come on boost its like nothing else, and thats just with 13psi, which is hardl;y stressed. I realise i have ranted a bit here lol but having this engine in a car which is so much lighter than an escos or sierra is just outstanding and i really cant reccomend it enough to others who have the money for the initial "breaking the bank" for the engine. plus the bonus of having a gearbox that will take the strain. it is a pure animal, im just dissapointed i never made it to fast ford this year. Just for Tony, ill come next year whether the car is running or not, I'm sorry for not being in touch much but i have been very busy recenty, will pop some time soon when axle is sorted. Cheers

Alex

Just another point i missed, if anyone is doing this from a V6 capri or similar, almost all of your guages will be out, currently i have oil pressure and the fuel guage that is accurate, apart from that it is all out. so im looking at over 500 to make my own custom guage pod with semi decent guages. Just out of interest tho what guages have people had good dealings with? Thanks.

Alex

Pictures will come soon....ish lol
