Just a few pics of our Granada Cosworth 2.9V6 powered DMS Venom Viper Cobra.
Been over 3 years in the making from first picking up the rolling chassis (Cortina based), stripping it down and starting again from scratch.
Please ignore the paint / bodywork

Thanks Steve, but i didn't want a typical 'run of the mill V8 Rover'. The tuning potential of the V6 is a lot more (IMO). In hind sight the V8 would have been more straightforward.
Also with the V6 the car is completely Ford

loks good and i love the 24v cossie motor in there, but although the ac ace was british, the cobra was american so, you have the steering wheel on the wrong side.   fix that and all will be good.

I'm sure with Adobe photoshop i could 'mirror' the car to keep you happy .
There are a lot of people building cobras over here with SBC and SBF motors, but i wanted reasonable economy and donor car came along at a good price .

IMHO it should be a v8 and only a v8 in a Cobra. The v6 just won't sound right for that car, don't get me wrong, i love the sound of the v6 but it would'nt be right in Cobra    There used to be one round my area with a v6 and it sounded she-ite

glyn

you picked the right choice m8 dont listen to them, standard rover v8 only made 150bhp and more trouble than the cos engine, the larger rover v8's were even worse with piston liner problems..weve stopped working on them thyr pain in the but...good luck with your project m8...it'll still go like the proverbial bat out of hell

Thanks all for the comments. i can see your point about the V8, but fuel economy/reliability, power and cost all come into my equation.
To get similar power from RV8 and cossie V6 there is a vast amount of cost difference. No RV8 is ever going to sound as cool as a Chevy or Ford V8 either. So the Cossie it is .
Don't expect weekly reports at is has taken over 3 years to get this far.
I have to add it has been a great help from all your people when you were on interford site, as a lot of the engine/electrical knowhow i have deemed from yourselves. So thanks for all the help in the past.
Please view clip of cossie with cats fitted but no sidepipes, then tell me RV8 sounds nicer   .
Cheers

yes, the photoshopped mirror image would make me much happier.

actually it really doesn't matter to me. i've never been a real big cobr fan, but i'm diggin' your project here. as longa s the motor has dohc's i'll be happy with it. or even sohc's for that matter.

The Cobra went in to be spayed in primer two weeks ago, so am a bit bored at the moment.
I have just realised how much time it takes up in the weekends and evenings.
I am having to watch telly with the wife now and have the occassional conversation
It should hopefully be back in my grubby hands two weeks from now.
There are quite a few odds and ends to do, and i still need to find someone to fit the carpets as i know it will turn out bad with me doing it.
I am hoping to get the beast SVA'd for the middle of this year.
Cheers

Hi All
Just a few updated pics.
Hopefully car will be ready for SVA august, so a few weeks after that it should be fully road lethal (sorry legal  ).
Cheers

looks good. can't wait to see the finished project.

oh and i fixed the second picture for ya m8

kevchard

Hi XR4man
I will not be able to see whilst overtaking now .
The car is a bit further on than that now, dash is in properly, steering wheel on, seats in, gear knob (or perhaps shift knob in your part of the world   ) is fitted. I'm carpetting boot at the moment.
Thanks for the comments, the top coat of paint will be not applied until at least after 6 months of being on the road.
Cheers
Kevin
