The 2.9 12v is very underrated.

DOHC advocates are just blind  I hate the f....ing things.

Get it slaped in, but paint it up first...

i hate the tincans as well rob, need to pull the v6 apart first, make a few adjustments etc, clean up and polish a few bits maybe before it all goes in, as might as well play with it whilst it's out, makes sence like, but needs cash

Ovalracer

I've just moved over to driving a 2.9 XR4x4 after my Sapph 4x4 twinky got wrecked, and the difference is unbelievable. Only been out in it a couple of times since I bought it a week ago, but loving it already.
I think you're saff is one of the nicest I've seen, so will be even better with the 2.9.
You going 4WD or sticking to RWD ?

Owain

it's staying rwd, picking my gearbox up off barry at xr4isparescentre this weekend coming, along with an assortment of other spares etc for the conversion

2 saffs

He couldnt afford a full 24V only the sump

Remko GT

Nice!
Good to see another V6 conversion. A proper engine for a proper car (or should that be propah  )

No such thing as a 24v sump as the 24v and the 12v are both based on the same block, right?

The 12V has 2 things missing

Inlets off, both heads are off, just inverted the engine to finish cleaning up the sump before a take that off as well ready for a spot of work on that, forgot to charg the camera up the other day, then went up the pub so pics are to follow.

Damocos

More progress on yours than on mine...!!!

Super 12v

has this engine been rebuilt previously? Apart from the block and inlet manifold being painted black there's a few differences I would expect in a stock block. As it has the non cat pistons I would assume its a pre 92engine but it has the extra counter balance on the crank like on a 24v or later 12v's. The alloy fuel rail would imply its post 1990 also and as far as I knew thos pistons were only used up until 92. block also has addition webbing my earlierblock doesnt have. Was this from a late scorpio as it obviously a RWD enge with at pick up.

bit confused as i'm sure the late spec engines shouldnt have those pistons

And it's not too later engineas it has the wrong crank pulley for a frog eye scorpio.

Sorry for rabbiting, just trying to pin point a year of that engine

Rob dont know if this helps but its the engine out of Simons Black 4x4 I put the 24V in.

Super 12v

cheers rob, simons is a K plate isnt it. some of the parts ring true with a late spec XR but some of parts seem to be wrong, the pistons mainly.

Nothing bad, in fact looks like a good basis for a rebuild. I just wouldnt have expect to see many of the parts in  12v til much later than 92 and then it certainly should have those pistons  unless ford have really raided the parts bin i'd say thats rebuilt previously.

Its on a J plate so think your right Rob its been rebuilt at some time.

Owain

All Simon said was that it had covered 160K miles and needed a crank seal, just seemed a shame not to pull it apart and play with it whilst it's out the bay

ROB S

Owain, wondered where you'd been mate. Good to see the lovely Saph again, it will be amazing with a 2.9 in it. Good luck with it, i'll read this with real interest.
