Was then time to Kiss the Pinto goodbye

Tunnels going to have to be modded to take the auto gearbox mount

The Sierra rack track rod arms have been swopped onto the Scorp power rack as the Scorp rods are longer.

The Scorp front cross member has been modded to take the Mk1 Sierra track control arms and the up rated engine mounts.

Basic'ly the Scorp track control arms use a 12mm bolt.

Wheres the Mk1 Sierra uses 10mm bolts which give a fair bit of slack.

So 6mm washers inserted into the holes

Welded into the subframe and welds ground

Then drilled out to 10mm

Then 10mm washers welded over

Job done

Mod for the uprated engine mount is simple enough its just a matter of enlarging the mount hole to the same size

Thread locked until all photos loaded

Cosworth subframes in along with the Cosworth 29mm front anti roll bar

The Cos Scorp uses 12mm bolts with 15mm heads to hold the roll bar to the body, the Mk1 uses 10mm bolts with 17mm heads, as the Cos roll bar is bigger the mounting rubbers are bigger and the mounting brackets are bigger but the hole centres are the same, you cant use the Mk1 bolts though as the heads are to tight to the side of the brackets, so tight you cant get a 17mm socket on them so you need to use smaller headed 10mm bolts.

Being 29mm they take some pulling in to fit the inner track control arm bolts

Easy if you have the right tool to do the job

Cosworth rear end off, 3 bolts sheared off

Mk1 rear end off, no sheared bolts

So its not on the road then

Research, eer theres little research to do m8, its all doing it, its only common sense to upgrade to a disk brake system same as it is knowing the box wont fit without tunnel mods

But I know you have been under a lot of stress and cars have had to take second place in you life m8, Yours was the first one fitted and would have been on the road long ago if other things hadnt gone tits up in your life. Lets face it if ya didnt have me to wind you up life would be very dull

So lets say

First Mk1 3 door 24V Auto:- Maddoldbugger
First Mk1 5 door 24V Auto:- Taps

Taps

I cant put into print my exact words as I would have to Ban myself so lets just say ******* **** that is ******* Fast ******* ****

Its a speed ticket collector thats for sure and he will have to get used to driving it as it will very easy turn round and bite his arse.

I'm now on the look out for a auto box for the TS

After a 30 mile road test returned to garage to find the oil light is flickering on at tick over, still better to find out now.

Owain

nice one taps, knew you'd get to the end of it

Tony

Well I've found a autobox for the TS so sod the manual box

Oil pressure problem

Right, dropped sump off

Oil pump taken off and stripped

Pic's dont do justice to just how fooked it is.

Now  there might well be a connection between having the covers media blasted and pumps going tits up, this is the second pump that has been found to be fooked.

The first one with the same sort of damage to the pump came from a engine with cam covers that had not only been media blasted but powder coat some of which got coated on the inside of the cover, this came off and went through the pump.

Now Paul had his media blasted, if the breather plates inside the covers are not sealed off then what is used to blast them can end up inside the breather platess, Pauls were washed through with solvent and blown through several times before the covers went back on, I'm not sure if all that was in them did infact  come out if it didnt then I suspect it did on road test went into the oil and then through the pump into the oil filter finishing the 120000 odd pump off on its way through.

The oil that came out of the engine in the first place was very black and I suspect had been in there a long time, the only other thing I can think of is that the pump had a problem all along and only showed up after fresh new oil replaced the thick old, who knows.

So IMO dont have your Cam covers media blasted, nor come to that the Plenum as I know of one engine that has blown up through that, you could say a instant rebore without taking the engine to bits.

Have dropped of 1 main and 1 big end furtherest from the pump and both shells are what you would expect for a engine of that mileage  so will just require a new pump

Tony

taps you can never get all the media out once its behind that plate.
trouble is, youl never know if its all out

i think we had a conversation like this before,,, best idea now, dump the cam covers, replace them with unblasted ones, fit a new pump and flush the engine a couple of times,,,

this should be a warning to others,

Right, it was def the stuff they blasted the cam covers with, took half a teaspoon of it out the sump this morning.

Sent Paul a pic of it to his Phone if he got it perhaps he will post it up.

Cars back up and running will be road testing again tomorrow.

that other oil pump will be my one then, after seeing the damage it had caused to the oil pump I think i had a lucky escape that we ( me belting it down the m25 an back and getting oil light flash up an Rob scratching his head over it for a few days cos it stopped doing it then tracing the prob). Def not wise to blast or powder coat the covers. Good save Taps
By the way it was already sprayed before i brought the car so am not guilty for it, just supprised it lasted the year before showing signs of any problems.

Taps you are a busy man.

Good job there as always

Loads of people have killed their engines now tarting it up a bit.

Hope you have saved it matey but to be honest I would still be worried.

Good one

Now that's good advice.
Driving down the M6 earlier today at around 85ish, stamped on the gas, box kicked down, revs went up, a lot up, GPS was still showing 85 but the speedo was showing around 140 ish. Must be wheelspinning I thought before backing off the throttle.

My heart rate is still at around 120 now just thinking of it.

Taps has done a fantastic job on this car, its a true one of a kind, just like Taps.
I appreciate everything you did mate, thank you.

Tony

yeah the auto is no slow coach!!

can you imagine the effects in an xr4i with a high stall converter?

i am truely amazed at it, mine should be MOT'd for fordfair with the electric master cylinder fitted and i can do a few sprints to
bloody thing is faster than my xr4x4 was
