popuptoaster

russ-2.9

Right donar engine, running when removed.

Sump removed and pan checked, in the bottom were small bits of a guide

Fine silvering of the oil.

Tensioner Blade bottom end checked, slipper still in place but it had slipped in the location slot.

Oil pick up checked slither of metal in it

Oil pump removed stripped and checked, top plate scored, pump body 2 deep scores

So strip out front of engine

Timing cover removed

Blade removed

So that explains the gudie bits, the silvering of the oil in the bottom of the sump and the metal found in the oil pick up and the scores in the oil pump.

its frightning the amount of these engines that seem to run fine but have this problem. still, tough as old boots otherwise (i hope) :D

Final'ly got all the bits needed to put the engine back together

New blades fitted.

New front crankshaft oil seal fitted and cover back on

Old tensioner was past it on inspection, piston had been running off of centre and had put a deep groove into the bore which most likely means that the blade had been snapped for a long while, new ones are no longer available so a used one has been fitted.

Taps

New oil pump fitted

Sump with all new gaskets and seals fitted

New cam cover gaskets fitted

Front end fitted up

New rear crank oil seal fitted

V6 EDC

Looking good m8, should of done that with mine before i put the lump in, but there you go. Gonna be rude being a 24v tina...

wolfie

I love 'Tinas me!
i miss my mkV..half think 'bout getting another one
Very cool project going on there!!

Taps

Well engines in the bay

But things to sort from the start. used the engine mounts from the 2.8 that was in there, Alternator is sitting on the front of the crossmember

Slight mod to the heater matrix box but not as much as I was lead to believe was required

So so mods required

hello taps,

good work, keep it up.

i did a engine 24v swap in a taunus (cortina) for a friend and i replaced the 24v alternator for a smaller toyota corrola one, and i cut a small piece out off the chassis rail to make room for the steering pump.

but i have also seen that people cut out a piece out off the crossmember, but i don't recomment that.

Cheers for that Paul, will look for a smaller one, as for cutting the crossmember thats a no no as you say.

Hello Popuptoaster,

I looked over your thread. It is amazing how this blade tensioner is so prone to breaking in alot of cars.
Its looking good thou.

popuptoaster

Taps is doin the hard work not me, but cheers anyway. :D

Taps

Right alternator problem, to recap, pulley hits on the crossmember and thats without the engine mounts sitting fully home onto the crossmember.

so few changes have had to be made

From this

to this

Will now be running a Nissan alternator, just got to make up adjuster bar and that bits done.

Marty

yay  Nissan parts  (I must hide my NX from you lot  )

Taps

Cooling fan now fitted,  Scorpio aircon fan used.

Blank off plate made and fitted

Slight problem today when I lifted it on the 2 poster ramp, rear springs fell out

Lowering springs I suspect with the wrong size shocks, something that will need to be addressed later

Right, bulk head cut to take the loom

Strengthening plate welded in.

Alternator mount bushed to take the Nissan small size mounting bolt

and adjuster brackets sorted

ahhh yeah dont worry them springs, its too low at the back, im gonna bin them anyway and get some more sensible ones in there, they were in it when i got it. I like being able to get a leg on down the lanes so i need some actual suspension rather than have it on the bump stops, it'll probably go back up to standard S height, it may not look as cool but i dont care about that
