That dont look like a XR4Ti shell to me m8, for starters they had a petrol flap like our MK2's thats got a XR4i one, they were also all LHD yours is RHD. if you look underneath the Ti chassis rails run the full length of the car, the hole in the front inner wing does look like Ti though seems a bit of a mix match to me.

oh wow, i get to correct taps.

the andy rouse xr4ti's were actually right hand drive. the eggenberger ones were left hand drive.

i also believe that due to the rouse cars being right hand drive and the xr4ti was never made in rhd, that they actually took a sierra shell and transplanted all the merkur parts onto it. if that is the case then the frame rials wouldn't go the full length of the car. i seem to remember seeing a discussion about this exact car not too long ago on another forum and there was strong evidence to suggest both ways if it was one of the rouse cars or not. i personally don't think it is, but maybe an attempt at a replica.

So they werent XR4Ti's at all then but XR4i's fitted with the XR4Ti engines?

Explains the fuel filler and RHD but why on earth they went with your spec bumpers I dont know

Am i not right in thinking all the xr4i came with a sunroof? this hasnt got one.

Also just for the record i have got someone to show Andy Rouse the pics and he has confirmed its one of his old cars! Also the previous owner gave me the orginal grill with the ICS logo on it along with double skinned doors where you can still see the sticker marks.

hello Jeek,

if i where you, i woudt contact andy rouse engineering or rouse sport ( if they still exsist ) for conformation about the car and to see if this is a real one or just a replica.

if the car is real, i woud rebuild it to its former glory, looking at the picture's, it will be big job, but wurth the time and money.

i THINK they went with our bumpers to make it a xr4ti. with your bumpers wouldn't they have to make it a 4i and use the n/a v6 as well? but with our bumpers they get to call it a 4ti and go with the turbo 2.3 litre. at least that's the way i'm understanding things.

The only way the XR4i could run with a turbo engine was if it was and XR4ti. Thats why its a base spec xr4i but converted to XR4ti trim. Its all to do with the race rules.
Like when the Sierra 3 door cosworth was ran in the touring cars, then Ford got the RS500 out most of the 3 Door race cars were just converted to the 500 spec.

Also there is no such thing as an RS500 race car. The only RS500's were the road cars non were converted to race cars. All the RS500 race cars you see are infact just motorsport shells with 500 parts fitted.

Jeek, nice find and a good piece of Ford motorsport history. Any idea if it was a round winning car?

not all 4i's came with a sunroof - only the very late ones did as standard but always poss to put in new roof skins to order for customers

just seen the thread link ; it looks like someone would gone to ALOT of trouble to make it a replica, so my assumption after is that it IS one of the cars.

Found some more info on the car.
It was a Jig shell. It was one of several that were built to make the roll cage jigs from.
They we're build to make the template for the angles where the tubes met. These sections were then cut out so it could be copied for the race shells.
It's a guess that this one managed to escape the crusher and had the cage fixed.
The info came from one of the builders of the cars. Think he said there are only 2 race xr4ti's that survived to this day from the BTCC days.
So although the shell above was built to the shell spec it never raced.

) saying it had ended up in New Zealand.

Shame it's not around in it's original state, it's the coolest 4i ever
