Right into fitting body kit now,  still waiting for 2 new complete front wings from Smith & Deakin due to the ones I took off from the donor car not being up to scratch in the end.

Baz is giving me a hand and we got all techy tonight and got the lazer aligner out    ya can just about see the red lazer lines in the pic's

Going to be a lot of work in fitting the kit.

Taps

Front wings came today so just had to lay them on there

Taps

Todays efforts

Front wings are on still got to re work the bottom front edges to finish then, the bumper part they come with lines up with nothing even if I had the S&D bumper to match the wings it would have sat above the front grille bottom which it shouldnt.

Frank lent me some quick release fasteners which work realy well, cheers m8.

Drivers side low skirt from the old kit fitted after a lot of modding, I was going to run without it but didnt look right

Rear spoilers mock fitted, can now weld up tailgate ready for spraying

Tony

will track it in morning and see what that is, still better to find out now . Will have to swop the scorp rear suspension over before i go any further with them.

Update on rear suspension problem.

Tracked the rear this morning, spec 0 degrees 8' toe in, actual 4 degrees toe in which works out at 1 1/2 inches toe in, way out of spec, have been measuring up and a good look at the floor pan which looks ok so at the moment it does look like one on the swing arms or tube is bent, have got the whole rear suspension off the Scorp tonight and hope to have it on the 4i tomorrow night so will know for sure then.

daz4i

Yeah ya can put me name down if ya want, as for wet an dry cant say as i aint never done much body work

Hope so Dave, just hitting problem after problem at the moment.

Right, update on why one side wheel base is longer then the other.

It looked like either the rear wishbone or beam must have been bent or the body was bent with the rear wings aligned with the centre of the wheel and the centre of the arch the wings ending a inch out of line to each other at the door opening.

Last night I put the Scorpio rear suspension on and the wheels/wings still sat the same so it looked like the body was infact bent somewhere as the wheel base on the off side was 2601mm near side 2621, 20mm difference

I took my 4i into work with me today and took the same measurements on that, off side 2600mm near side 2622 mm a difference of 22mm, this left me thinking WTF is going on here, have I got 2 bent 4i's, I also had a customers Mk2 XR 4x4 in for service today so measured that, off side 2612mm nearside 2631mm difference of 19mm

Again WTF, now the chance of me having 3 bent sierras at the same place and same time must be slim or am I realy that unlucky   , plus I've had my 4i 4x4 on the rollers twice now with no comment that it was running out of line, so done some digging.

Autodata give the wheel base as 2609mm, well all 3 werent that so dug out my Ford Mk 1 Workshop manual , found a nice Frame Dimension sheet and it would seem that no Sierra body was built that straight to begin with  ,  two ref points on the body 1 just in front of the front strut turret to the centre of the rear shock mount allows + or - 30mm   so 20mm  seems to be feck all to worry about

Allowing also for slight differences in the fibre glass wings I will just have to get them as close to each othere as I can.

As for fitting the Scorp rear end on the 4i that had its on problems, will cover that later

Fitting the Scorpio rear suspension  with 7 1/2 inc lsd diff to the 4i.

Simple bolt on job, not really, the beam is a direct fit, but the shocks cant be used as there to long

Anti Roll Bar

The Scorpio rear roll bar will not fit the 4i cross member not only cos theres no mounting points but it hits on the diff rear mount long before the mounts get to sit on the cross member

going to be easy enough to make up new mounting points though will update when done.

Wheels and brakes.

If your keeping the 5 stud Scorpio wheels then there not a problem.

If you want to stay 4 stud then you will need other bits, first off the hubs from the drum system will not fit the disc brake set up, so you will need the 2 hubs from a rear disc brake Sierra, there a direct fit into the Scorpio bearings.

The Scorpio rear brake discs are 5 stud vented 273mm dia, need to change these to the cossie 4 stud rear disc's, again there a direct fit.

Had Brake cable

The scorpio one will not fit as its to long, so need to fit one from a rear disc brake Sierra.

Will update with more pic's as I change over.

Hi mate im loving whats happening with the 4i its coming along a treat, just got one question did you try fiting the rear roll bar with the car at its true ride height as they move forward a lot if theyre jacked up.

No m8, to be honest where it is now is the only place it can go, with the petrol tank in it cant come further back.

Taps

4 stud hub flange and the cossie disc are on one side, along with new flexi and steel brake pipes.

No Glyn, they stick out the archs far enough now

By the looks of the wheels they are the correct off set for the axle as the centre is still in the centre of the hub.

glyn

I'm lowering mine do you think I'll have trouble rubbing the arches, not a lot of room under there, lowering with koni adjustables and dropping 50mm? loads of tips looking at your project, lot of body welding, good job  I keep looking....glyn
