Looks good m8

TwinTurbo

IansSaph

cheers guys, its a different story when you get up close with the spanners like, future posts will show...

I'm starting at the back and working forward underneath, fuel tank and pump carrier next followed by trailing arms and you get the expensive picture.

Got some time on the old girl this weekend, to fit my new Fan switch in my rad from Ford and got my 'new' massive intercooler in place, what a bitch that was to fit, but its in now.

Petrol tank strap and turbo heat shield fabrication next weekend i hope,

IansSaph

I've got my Thermostat housing back from the engineering firm, they have cut it and turned it so it faces right now not left, this means it will match up with my YB radiator and mean i'll be able to use YB silicone top hose and swirl pot, Happy days. I've got to clean it and refit then i'll photo it.

IansSaph

Got the thermostat housing back on and used the original hose to match up with my YB radiator.

Don't laugh at me leaky cam cover gaskets.

Interesting, what are you doing about the bleed off back to the header tank though or do you think doing away with it from the thermostat housing wont cause any problems?

IansSaph

I'm fitting a yb swirl pot in the top hose for the bleed back to the header tank,

i just keep getting out bid on the buggers.

Finally got a swirl pot sorted, thats in the shed to be fitted.

I've stripped the camcovers with the wire brush on the drill, i was almost tempted to polish them up but i knew i'd never keep them clean so they are off the Paintshop today, to get coated in some etch then what ever is in the gun that day... BMW swartz metalic i think he said.

Plenum is in the shed half stripped, i'm temped at polishing that after seeing Simons however agin, i bet it will look shite after a day on the track so back silver it will go.

Fuel rail removed, neighbours had a good laugh at me going Basil Faulty stood on the strut tops trying to get the b@stard thing off..... they're a b1tch arn't they! I'm really looking forward to refitting the Vectra ones   , Adjustable pressure regulator came the other day in 'anodised' red.... hmmm hope it doesn't look a bit 'Essex Nova'....

I reckon its coming back on the road like that for six months while i learn to love it again, I have most of the parts spare or measured to be getting on with the Turbo conversion. I also think i'm going to get the Megasquirt bought and working before taking the boost route.... i'm well know for biting off far more than i can chew at once then having nothering but a pile of fabrication.

I'd of included some photos but the N95 is in the repair shop and the "temp shop phone" is prehistoric.

Ian

IansSaph

Camera phones back, god i missed that!

Cam covers back on. Funds have expired for this year, so sadly no BOB cams or new gaskets but hey....

Time lapse 20mins.....and the fuel rail is back on

With the Vectra Injectors for now.

expecting my new corvette ones next week from the states. Total cost delivered of £21.34 for 8! these are for when there is some boost running through the old girl and should see her safe at 300bhp.

Now did you spot the 'deliberate' mistake....?

Tw@t and Bum!!!!! time to go home and start again on wednesday.

when i got home to the workshop... sorry shed. i started to cleen up the plenum, but since i bought a BOB one off madz (cheers mate) i've lost interst in stripping and polishing the BOA one, i dug out some "chrome in a rattle can" and give it the once over, it'll protect it and get it back on for now as the BOB plenum isn't straight forward as most know.

Near enough for now, another update on thursday after i get her running again....

I've still got one hand

IansSaph

Injectors came this morning from over the pond. I've been playing with the MS software on the laptop too and i think i need to be buying the ECU soon, Going for the all singing MS2 V3 with electronic boost control and nitrous control.... cause you never know....

Ian

IansSaph

I'm determined to get my starter motor on tommorow night. and all my wiring tidied and clipped away.

Going to try and get the sump off also to make my oil returns,
Definately mocking up one manifold, my mate brought round some freebies from his garage for me, Oil cooler  and some subaru headers for my manifolds.

i asked if he thought the subaru matterial would be up to the power from a real engine.... he laughed and nearly took them back.... bless him.

Janspeedcapri

wish I had mates who brought round free tuning parts - all i get is snide dvds and the occasional beer

right now i'd be happier with the dvd a beer, he's pestering me to get it finish and to be fair with out him it would be as near as it is now! hes a star, he painted my cam covers for me to help me out but it was really to stop my excuse of "its got no cam covers on!"

IansSaph

Got one of the heat shields done, not particuarly happy with it, but its functional for now. its all open to change anyway.
that aint happening.

quick shot of a 'proper' intercooler

and the space over my rad where my oil cooler is going, seen a few RS500s with them there and they seem to work ok for them...

Janspeedcapri

twin turbo with only one intercooler? tut tut   ....  my twin turbo had one each either side of the airdam - now thats proper  ...nice progress tho bud

everything has been done or made so a YB will slot in if i find one under a sheet in the garage.... the single cooler means a cross over pipe for one turbo and a Ypipe... no great shame.

if i find one under a sheet in the garage....

If George Micheal happens to be there too can ask him what that chord is?

IansSaph

if he's touching my YB under a sheet in the garage i'll do more than ask him about his cords!
