xr4i turbo project

well......here she is
84 A xr4i , the last owner put a turbo technics kit on. the t200 ? does anyone know this car? ive left reg plate on pics.
what it needs after 1st quick look is
welding, surprise surprise....lol, both rear arches, it needs a slam panel, nsf wing,are all mk1 wings the same ? all underneath is solid, the a pillers have bubbling rust,sunroof and roof panel all seem fine. need an alternator and battery. the last owner put power steering on as he said 84 cars didnt have it ? i dont know? he took it off his 83 car. are the alternators different to run more belts? im thinking they will be...anyone got a part number?
it came with genuine cosworth rear hatch and wing,bonnet, front bumper which needs fixing and refitting,
sapphire fr+r cosworth seats,3door cosworth alloys. and lotsa spares, wheels,dash e.t.c
plans are front and rear cosworth running gear,brakes,suspension e.t.c
3 dr cos arch's and skirts
cage and a pair of buckets
a lot of work,but should be fun..  lee

Bit of work m8 but then hard to find one these days that dont.

You cannot get 4i wings even pattern ones, you can get Mk1 wings but the side indicator holes are in a slightly different place and your need to drill the holes for the cladding etc but they will fit.

Not acquainted with this kit version,but does it run ok?  Hopefully it will have the TT distributor,because somtimes not all the parts that have been on offer have everything needed. Can you do a picture of the engine?

Not all XR4i's had PAS,but it was on offer as an Optional Feature at a cost of £388.26 adding to the price of £9656

been intouch with sierrashack and he's got me an alternator for 20 quid and passenger wing for 25 quid but i gotta take the wing off myself.
anyone got one already off ?

hi mate she looks good for her year  

to take the wing off you need a spot weld cutter that way you do less damage to the wing and all you have to do then when you get it back is plug weld it back on you can get them from

hope this helps you out think you can get them from any motor accessory shop but well worth it for restoration work

well..... got a spare few hours today so rolled the old girl out in the sun and started stripping the interior and trim out of the rear. took the xr4i hatch off and fit my cossie hatch, i know theres more important things to do but i couldnt help myself.....  
tomorrow will be...... front seats,carpet,door trims and roof lining out then a good scrub inside to see what repairs are needed.
i think im gunna change the engine and start from scratch with a sierra cosworth engine and box i can have from a mates car cheap!

 but if your going to all the trouble of putting a cossie lump tailgate and arch kit on why not just buy a 3 door and not wreck another 4i

true mate and at the end of the day its his car and we are all different but if your going to the trouble of putting a cossie lump and spoiler and arch kit on why not do it to a 3 door shell and restore another 4i to standard spec  

i may get shot for this and please dont condem me for it but i just think if you want your car to look like a cossie then buy a cossie and keep the older and rarer cars such as the 4i's as they should

Well its true that Standard 4i's are few and fare between these days I know m8.

I could have kept mine standard but thats not what I wanted.  The shell is what makes the 4i a 4i, there a one off, no matter what you do to them there a 4i, ok cut the side windows out and convert them to single window can see your point,  infact even I would have something to say about that and would join you in saying go find a 3dr not a 4i, after all whats a 3dr cossies but a modded base 3dr Reps car  .

You can fake a Cossie but your never see a fake 4i and I'd rather have a 4i anyday, you just cant beat the look of a 4i

yeah true mate perhaps its just me goin over board a little when all you see is 4bs and 4i;s made up to be a cozzie lookalike  

still everybodies different perhaps i should find a mint 4i and stick it in storage itll be worth a fortune in maybe 10 years!!

totally understand what your saying jaffa but i didnt get the car to make a cossie rep. i didnt get it cos i was looking for a totally stock xr4i either as its deffo not that. i bought it as a half decent project to take my time with and get it lke i want... not what other people want it to look like and if deffo wont be ruined.

You are not alone on this. Most MK1 Cossie owners sometimes break their MK1's as they will get more money than the complete car,which is a real shame.
Having said that,my 4i is not standard spec. All the 4i trim has gone,MK1 cossie bonnet,aftermarket whale-tail. All done by the previuos owner.
But I want a standard 4i,absolutely fine looking
