Neil's kitcar    its a Rocka Alpha, these are very rare, i think 4 where left in this country.

I thought it was a covin for ages until the chap that built them told me the story about this one. And it also explained why when the covin chaps would go that isnt right it should be x or y from a beetle (they hadnt seen the car in person) and id always find these bit where from a ford or that the pictures of a covin always seemed slightly different or the biggest one, the engine was in the front and not the rear.

Apparently as you will see with the dual wishbones, and fully adjustable front to rear suspension, these cars could beat a real 911 turbo on a racetrack when they had the pinto engine fitted, this is because this car was designed like a race car and belive me it takes corners at speeds that make my sphincter start to twitch lol.

And now that im fitting a lovely boa engine in id expect its power to weight ratio to be the same as the orignial 911 turbos so id hope in a straight line we would be about equal.

Any way some other details for you

It has crumple zones front and rear, this one i think was the kevlar/fibre ones and are strong enough that you could jump on the roof. It has 3 loops in side the car for extra ridgety, with 2 main bars front to rear, and belive me there big like iron girders, i think the total weight of the car should come in about 750-800kgs when all finished but as im moving to Guernsey at some point i have no choice and have to have the car weighed there so ill know for sure then.

Its fitted with a T9 V6 box, all round disks, currently putting in the cosy MC since the old servo wouldnt fit thanks to the bigger engine.

The plenum chamber has had one of the bumps milled down to make her fit under the bonnet

If i think of anything else ill let you know

Glad your adding the pics Mike, id get bored of doing that lol.

With any luck tomorrow people ill have stripped and re painted that rear suspension now that mikes taken it appart for me, and we should hopefully have sorted the brakes out, since the MC also fowls with the engine but only just so the main part stays in place and the pump/accumilator are moving towards the front near where the radiator will be so that the engine is free to twist again lol.

And i have to give a big thanks to Mike and his mates, since Thursday i think we have put a total of around 200 man hours into this project

Remko GT

Nice project
Stange to see a "911" with the engine in the front.

haha, why do i want one of these now????
there is a couple of the Covin ones on ebay, i reckon an impreza wrx motor would go well in the back of them....

Remeber with a covin you generally have a VW chassis, but the engine is in the right place.
But if your not racing it on a track and want the look then a covin will keep you happy.

I know the chap that made mine did have one part built on his drive that he might sell? and i know he still has the molds but i bet it wouldnt be cheap, but if you want his email pm me and ill send it you

Its ok i'm over it now. I get like a child and have to have things but it sunk in and i told myself.... "why do i want a beetle chassis, pull your finger out of your arse and fix your sierra"

Proper cool project. keep us all updated mate.

looks a bit milky but apart from that the project looks ace matey

neilthorpe

yes that me and my milky tea, and most of the interior that i did for the car, the picture was to show the custom spanner that mike made since the custom downpipes are so close to the firewall in the car we need that said spanner to do up one nut lol.

Currently im working on the Dash to i can get it all nice and then start to leather that in Red with bits of white, ill also leather the steering wheel red and white as well

The Mrs would kill me if i spread my project into the lounge like that, either that or you've got got a cushy workshop mate. Agree on the tea, you need mans tea! brewed for 5mins with a splash of milk. and not of that girly sugar either. LOL

Zackspeed280

Lovely job mate, having also totally striped my 24V so it could all be plugged back together I knowhow much work you went through just to start!  You are going to uprate the front bakes aren't you?  Is that the 24V abs in there as well?  Will be interesting with cortina brakes on the front and sierra / granada ones on the rear!  Go for the GTR280 upgrade - works really well.
Westfield (R ) 2000 Zetec Sport - awesome, always seeking lightenment!
Range Rover Sport Overfinch Tow Car
Capri 280 (E) 24V Supercharged in build

neilthorpe

will the gtr280 fit my front? the hubs are realy deep 5 stud on the front, and belive me, if i know what brakes i could change her to i will do as i want to stop

And No abs, just the cossy master cylender or pump and acculator if you prefer to know it as that.

I never could have my tea that strong, blame my mum she always made it so a spoon would stand in it as it was so strong lol

neilthorpe

there you can see 3 of our custom tools lol.

The spanner to tighten one nut on the exhaust, and the other 2 where for the rear brakes.  Nice work on those last 2 mike  got them back on.

You can also see the new strengthening plate put on the front of the steering column holder, in its last MOT (some 2 years ago) mot man said there was too much up and down in the steering wheel, well there wont be any after this fix

The rest are of the Dash and the stupid amount of work ive had to put into it, having to create a new heater control with vents re fill all the holes and cuts the last owners had done, and as you can see red leather for the dash.

Sure mike will keep the pics coming

The dash, in its red and cream leather, thats the scorpio steering wheel which more than once i thought i was going to catapult through the window while i was trying to do the white leather in the centre.  Horn isnt pushed in before anyone asks lol.

The heater controls are a mix and match, the heater control is from a cosy granny mk3 and the heater vents are from a mk 1 granny, they have now been fibre glassed together to fit in the whole in the middle/bottom of the dash

As you can see thats the tranmission tunnel removed so we could get to the handbrake cables and add the handbrake switch.

The dash is now almost complete, just need to put the heater controls in.  Then i need to fabricate the cosy clocks into the hole for the porsche clocks.  That will be done soonish.

Im sure mike will upload more pics soon.

Car is getting realy close to finished now, not bad considering we effectivly stripped a cosy granny, and then the whole kitcar, fitted new loom, different engine, manufactured our own tools, and i think just about every thing on the car has had to be modified to fit, for example, exhaust, steering column, brake pedal, dashboard and clocks, wiring loom, washer bottle, fuseboxes, brake servo, alternator mounting and adjuster, heater resevour, washer resevour, radiator, fans for radiator, horns, bonnet, plenum chamber..... the list does continue lol. and so far all in 4 weeks

It truly has been lets fit this, bugger it doesnt fit, ok how can we make it fit, how can we make it work right and work better.

I think i might be taking the fuel sender unit and pump from the cosy and adjusting and making that fit into my fuel sender unit that fits into the side of the tank.

If it hasnt been for the massive efforts by both Mike and Scott this car would be far far from being complete

neilthorpe

Well as you can see on one of the video links i think the second one, the car runs  and its running correctly at last

The dash clocks are now done as you can see, that took a lot of work, but its cream leather with red trimming on the outside.  It uses the cosy clocks, with the trip computer the dash light brigtness controler, and then i made 2 sections on the right for the warning lights, which i have on the top row, cruise control, main beam, and something else lol forgot what, and row 2 is all the reds, so battery, handbrake/low resevoir, and low oil.

The clocks took me about 2 days to construct into that plate, using as much of the old back part of the surround as possible fibreglassed in so the clocks can be taken in and out like the normal cosy bits, and the whole plate can go in and out as before i put the leather on put a bolt that was shaved down on either end and fibreglassed it to the plate so its captive.

Im fairly pleased with it.

And today we have put the fuel sender unit from the cosy into the fuel sender unit that was on, so now the cosy sender unit instead of being from the top of the tank, now fits in the side of the tank using the old sender plate with the float section now rivited onto it

MOT passed today first time round.

Many thanks to Mike and Scott.
