Well i`ve had this about a month now, thought i`d get some piccies up. Bought for £300, it was pretty much standard apart from the 16"s. I have a 24v lump and loom ready to be fitted, not sure if i want a Cosworth look for it or original but clean look, still undecided.

I prefer it at the start, with the other wheels and standard front bumper..still nice though!

Yes I agree - prefer the "O.Z" type wheels to the "MOMO" type in the last pic. Generaly tho, very nice looking car...and for £300, a real bargain. My Audi S4 was an estate - I mean avant which always gave it a "wolf in sheeps clothing appeal. Other raod users get startled by rocket ship wagon hoofin it through the traffic like your in a small car...in fact i love the horrified looks from small car drivers when i came flying past in the hurse (current Volvo V70 2.5 20v turbo)

put your fingers in your ears mate, i like your new bumper, saph cos estates are cool so there! that a laguna splitter? hard to tell from the angle.

i'd opt for some more ford orrientated rims tho. mondeo 16s are my fav when on a budget.

Thanks for the comments guys. The old wheels were ok but one was slightly buckled and needed tyres and then they came up cheap. Plus they suit an old car like a Sierra i think...

Just waiting to get car back with an Mot now (In good hands as being done at Tap`s) , then going to get on with the 24v and cossie kit...

Update

Well, its been a while since i last updated this thread as i`ve been away but we do have progress. Last week it was to taken Taps to have the MOT work done and little while later it came back with 12 months MOT, very impressed with the work carried out and the welding is second to none. :th:

So i`ve just insured it at a meer £361 - fully comp which i think is pretty good, complete with 12 months tax. So we took it for a run to the local air show and back and pleased to report no problems...









First job now is to fit a 24v ARB with new polybushes as the others are slightly worn...

Well, now i have a bit of spare time on my hands i`ve been getting to work on the 24v conversion. I decided to buy an engine crane instead of borrowing my mate`s all the time. Folds up and loads nicely in the back of the estate  . So i started removing the 24v engine and gearbox from the donor sierra, gearbox off, engine up and out. So easy with the right equipment...

So now the engine is in my garage, i`ll be taking the sump off to fit the 4x4 sump with modded inlet pipes, and also check the tensior blades while the sumps off. I`ll also be removing the viscous fan in order to fit twin electric fans, aswell as give the engine a good strip and clean, and I might even paint a few bits  .

I must of spent most of the morning trying to get that sodding viscous fan off  :x . Just typical i didn`t have a spanner to fit, and even when i did find one i couldn`t undo the nut without the whole pulley turning round. I got there in the end and it did come off. It was just then that i realised how dirty it was with oil,  so i started to clean it.

)



I`m going to use a different method for putting it back together, i`m going to attach the gearbox and crossmember and then lay it on the floor and lower the car on top of the engine then bolt up to the car.

It`s in!

Started off by refitting the 2.9 clutch and flywheel, then fitting the gerbox, front prop,starter motor and crossmember



I had to modify a bit of the crossmember to clear the modified oil inlet return pipe so i removed a small section in order for the pipe to fit correctly



Once that was all ready, i set about removing the existing crossmember and anti roll bar so that i could fit the new engine and gearbox, then lay the engine in front of the car so it was ready



We then rested the engine and gearbox on a couple of jacks and the carefully lifted the car over the engine with the engine crane lifting the car





And finally it`s in





Next, i will be fitting the steering rack along with the lower arms and anti roll bar and the pumbing the engine and radiator up. Its now ready to have the engine loom fitted which my sparky has already converted for me so i will be calling him in the next day or two to arrange fitting it.

I just sorted the odds and sods out. Also spoke to Simon who is doing my loom and he says he should be able to come and fit it in the next couple of weeks. So meanwhile, i hope to get the exhaust fitted. I`ll be using the top halfs of the 24v downpipes cut just below the lambda sensors and then it will be welded to the bottom halfs of the 12v downpipes. So i`m on the hunt for a standard 4x4 exhaust to use with the downpipes as the current exhaust is a bit too loud at times.

So i ftted the n/s manifold...



Then fitted the power steering bottle...



Then connected the fuel and water pipes and fitted the airbox using the original bracket and cutting the lug off the side of the box. Then i connected the accelerator cable along with the clutch cable, and refitted the gearstick gaitor and trim. Starting to look good at this stage







Tommorow, i`m going to do the oils. Top the gearbox and front diff up with oil and also put some engine oil in. Will also look into fitting the electric fan for the cooling.

Which electric fan will you be using, I haven't been able to find one slim enough to fit between the rad and the front of the water pump, I also have A/C in my Estate.

Theres 2 options, you can use a pair of fans from a 4x4 cosworth which are the ones in the pic below, or you can use a set of fans from a BOB scorpio as i believe these are quite slim too.



As a 3rd option, i have read somewhere that someone used an air-con fan from a sierra/granada and it worked a treat.

Managed to get some downpipes today and a half decent centre section. The back half has been cut off but I have a couple of back boxes and bits of pipe to try when it comes to be fitted...





Also painted a set of sideskirts i had in the garage, will fit these in the next day or two...

Bit of an update...

I`ve now had the exhuast done thanks to Taps. We used the system above which was modified to fit the 24v, the downpipes were cut and mated to the 24v downpipes just below the lambda sensors.

Drivers side downipe modded and rewelded...



Then fitted...



Then the passenger side pipe was modded and welded. On the 2.9 12v exhaust, you have a slide on mount on one pipe and a coupling mount on the other, so the slide on mount was modified to take a coupling to make fitting/removal easier and then was all fitted...







Then it was just a case of fitting the centre section and modifying a granada backbox to fit it...



With that done, i started to remove the dash in order to fit the new wiring loom. Most of the dash is now out with only the main bit still in the car ready to come out tommorow...





Then the loom can be fitted as and when Simon can get round to it. Theres also a couple of odd jobs i have to do tommorow so will update again shortly...

But escos rims would look nice

i tried to get out of buying another 1 but it lasted about a week, so ive bought a 3dr cosworth shell off passion ford, and im building that when ive saved a few pennies lol

Small update. Today i managed to get the cooling fan fitted. I used the air con fan which was modified to fit the radiator and fits nicely...

Air con rad + fan removed...





Fan then fitted using a modified bracket at the top and cable ties around the sides, lol...



My HID kit also turned up in the post...



Went for the 8k bulbs in the end and what a difference they make...



All fitted...



The kit was so easy to install aswell and was completely plug and play, took about 30-40 mins fitting...





Also made up a little bit of extension pipe for the power steering fluid return, used from an old bit of fuel pipe...

Last week, the old 12v engine loom was removed ready for the new 24v loom. Yesterday, the new loom was fitted, along with the EGR bracket and EDIS 6 module. On the first turn, it didn`t want to start, so i changed the fuel pipes round and she started straight away!    Also a big thankyou to Simon (Simes), for modifying my loom for me and doing a great job.

With that done, i`ve started fitting the dash back in, bar the drivers lower dash part as some wires still need connecting. Still plenty off things that need finishing off, that will be done over the next couple of weeks. I`m also pleased to report that i`ve done 183 miles towing a car and trailer since the conversion, and pleased to say, didn`t miss a beat once!
