Owain

thats a heavy old P100 you got yaself there Frank, me an Rob pushed it off the ramp the other day to do my clutch, and considering you took the engine and gearbox out, it was heavier than robs granada after we took the engine and box out

frank4

It is heaver that you expect, I thought it was maybe the brakes binding a bit when I has shoving it around. But it does have a large metal buck, a "proper" chassis, cart springs etc so maybe that explains it?

I would be interesting to know what weight it actually is?

rob
one of two things will happen

1/ you will have done so much that ya never want to weld again

0r

2/ youl get known for the good work and get loads of welding work come in to the workshop......
( then  youl never want to weld ever again)

but its amazine how good ya are at it!!

tony

the 24v xr4i auto-0 to 60 in 6.71 secs

frank4

Tony,

He is magic at the  welding and it's a great advert for him, if he wants the work   Not only that, as you know he's a good guy too..

If he is going to get pissed off with it let's hope its after he's finished the truck

As Rob continues with the weldathon, I decided to pull the heads of and open out the exhaust ports to suit the janspeed manifold.
[attachment=1]  [attachment=2]
I stripped the heads down, (which I hadn't done before and they are okay), but I will replace the oil seals and probably grind in the valves.
[attachment=3]
I decided to just take the port to match the gasket as there is not much point in going larger unless you make your own gasket, but it is a fair bit of metal that has to be removed.
[attachment=4]  [attachment=5]
I just clamped the gasket as a template and scribed round it and marked out the metal to me removed
[attachment=6]

I've run out of picture space so I'll continue on another reply.

Continued from the previous post...

I then ground out the metal using a grinding stone at slow speed, it was slow work but fairly staighforward and rather that just make the "hole" bigger I tried to sort of blend it into the internal curves of the port, (if that made any sense?).  I removed a lot of metal from the top of the port.

[attachment=1] [attachment=2]

As you will see from the pictures just taking out the port ot match the gasket takes it from 33mm to 40mm. I've done both ports on one head but it is a slow task, but it may be worth it and costs nothing.... unless I end up with two scrap heads... oops

Taps

Ok, apart from  the front panel wing mount the passenger sides just about finished

baz69

the pictures do not do true justice to the work that taps has done on this,i looked at it tonight while Taps was playin with his favourite pain in the butt (my car) and its a brilliant job,  when i first saw the p100 at his place i thought it was quite nice before being stripped,but when i saw it next without the wings my words were scrap it i thought it was well passed it lol

frank4

Baz,

Your right it was a mess when the wings came off, Rob and me did talk about buying another truck and transferring the good bits like the buck, wings and doors. But all the cortina p100's out there are pretty rotten, do we decided to tackle the whole front end and Rob was up for it.

I was up at the weekend and as you say the pictures don't do it justice, it's a brill job and coming on nicely.

Now I will have to do it justice with a decent paint job, wheels and a resonably detailed engine bay. Still toying with and XR4i rear axle and maybe in the future repacing the 2.8efi with a 24 valver??

Might be a "hunk of junk" to some but to the owner its not, the same could be said about my 4i the amount of rust I cut out of that, plenty have said they would have scrapped it.

There both getting few and fare between these days and without people willing to save them there be gone never to return.

steve

I had thought about that but it the best quote that I could get was £80, which seemed pretty steep. What sort fo price should I expect to pay?
