Thanks Ade - feels like ages but actual work hours, maybe 200 on stripping and welding the shell? it was never ending, almost  more soon...

Janspeedcapri

Since I can't take any of the shell today, heres the wheels YOU the public voted for in my poll to decide which wheels to get

225 45 ZR15 Proxes R1R ...so sticky and soft you can't use them in cold conditions

Gazrs

thats a lot of work gone into it! Have you rebuilt the engine?

robrs2

What size are the rims, 8"?  I have the 7" ones

Janspeedcapri

Thanks Gazrs - the engines being done for me cos I may be willing but I'm no engine builder, by a long way. Should have more pics and info on that soon

robrs - the fronts are 7.5J with 205s and the rears are 8.5J with 225s. (all 15inch) - had to reduce dish on the front to alow the brakes I'm having but the back ones look nice and deep, which is the main thing (that and stopping  )

edit - tbh, I could of had another half inch dish on the back as well but I needed to put cossy rear discs an calipers...

Janspeedcapri

Went and took a couple of pictures this morning. I'm pleased with the colour - BMW Mini Cooper S colour... dark silver metalic, also the colour of the special edition Mini Graphite ...shit cars, good colours

Gazrs

That colour really suits it! When do you pick it up mate?

Janspeedcapri

was meant to be taking it home today but theres a couple of things i'm not happy with that they need to sort out... they say they can but Ive wasted holiday so I could be putting the thing together but instead I'm drinking coffee after coffee looking at the rain washing all the dirt off my drive

Thanks for the comment about the colour - everyone whose seen it says the same, like it was mixed for the car  very nearly did the bright geen capri thing but then I came to my senses and got it done a sensible, tidy, colour

Leebay

Should look very smart, those rims and colour together   Why GRP wings though?

At least its going to be perfect when you pick it up rather waste a day now than fanny around when it is all done.It really does suit it, green would of ruined it imo. What engines going back in a 2.8 turbo?

Janspeedcapri

Leebay - Yeah, the wings are GRP, also the front panel, bonnet and tailgate (with plexiglass screen) - its all part of a calorie controlled diet

also, after several months sat in my garden with not so much as a lick of paint, I can't see a spot of rust
...poking that bit just above the passenger headlight with my finger nail is where ALL of this started

Janspeedcapri

gazrs - sorry, yeah, a 2.8 turbo  the original block for the shell with matching numbers on the documents but just about everything else is different.

Lemon-Ade

Mate that's looking real good! Top colour too and best looking wheels on a Capri.

Very smart!

Ade

love it. the color and those wheels (witch also had my vote) are a very nice combination. as for the tires, i used them and they have very good grip, even when cold, but they dont like the combination: cold, rain or snow

as for the GPR wings, i had them on the black capri v8, and they where a real nightmare. they did not fit at all, requerd a lot off trimming and even more work to get them straight and when i had them straight, 1 day later, after a day in the sun,  they looked like a golf course again. everyone i spoke, had the same problems with the GPR wings. i hope you have more luck with GPR panels. would be a real shame if the car has straight and nice finish, and the wings arent straight.

Glad you like it Paul  The wings, bonnet and front panel have been difficult to prepare - I spent some time trimming and making them fit then theyve had best part of 200 bodyshop hours on them so I hope they look acceptable when it done. i ve heard it all from the naysayers and doom merchants but you know what TVRs and Ferraris aand lotuses are GRP so (providing they fit) they can look perfect - they certainly won't if you just buy them and paint them as is

All the black parts have been done or redone this week - stripped back to bare metal with wire wheels and drill brushes, nitromors and washed with thinner then anti-rust primered and painted satin black with high temp (VHT) black satin epoxy. I used VHT red caliper paint on the brembos and have new heat proff decals to go on.

These left to do ( and prop shaft and axel)

Done these with a high temp coating that your meant to stove on - I "baked" it with a heat gun and now its hardened up nicely. I had the gun 10mm from it and was moving very slowly and all it did was dry and harden and stop smelling. Not doing the link - no need as I'll probably heat wrap that (no worry bout it rusting as its stainless)

few more shots of the shell prep - lot of grit, deisel, white spirit,  bosch angle grinder wirbrush wheels and 2 heat guns and gallons of nitromors - nearly killed, never, ever again. was it worth it? find out soon enough

I didn't take enough pictures but the whole car was bare metal top to bottom, ALL rot was cut out properly and patches and repair panels welded  in - reinforcment added to wing flanges to overcompensate for GRP front end (also be fitting a strut brace)

TimoXr4i

Damn, it looks good. I'm not into the color, I liked the original crystal blue better, but hey, I like blue cars (I've got a red focus, but my 4i is blue!), but, it looks really good!

to bad for my car, yours is younger, and my girlfriend dislikes you, becouse she want's to onw your car

do I need to say more?

Cheers!

Thanks Timo ...and Mrs Timo

Paul - thats really, really nice  ...but my wife has started passing comments too - she recons the headlights and grill let it down - she recons the grill needs a badge or something   and I think you need the twin lights man!!!
The colour is beautiful tho, and the stance is pure dragracer, the wheels are blingin too - this is perhaps the way I would go with a V8 mk1. AND soooo glad you didn't make the EPIC ducktail mistake - they make a mk1 look about 2ft shorter

Going down the bodyshop right now - update on the shell soon

Janspeedcapri

New lights arrived  ...the bottom pair that is

not exactly the same but are clear glass fronted projectors  - much better for seeing with and they fit as standard ones do - no modding anything

I'm getting two 50w H4 li/lo digital HID kits so I can have QUAD XENONS!!! ...that dip!!!! and have a 100w (HID) of full beam!

for the grill and the headlights, they are the stock parts. round lights are nicer, but i wanted to keep the outside orginal. i know, i know....... it went wrong after the grill and headlights.......  as for the epic ducktail, i did not wanted a big wing on the back, for me it looked like your driving around with the frontdoor attacht to the rear off the capri.

but others like a ducktail on the back off there capri (and than the wonder why there capri is slower  )

Janspeedcapri

The ductail is the ideal shape to compliment the capris lines, but as you say the RS 3100 style one is MASSIVE and would slow the car down. I saw where a guy made an improvised mk3ducktail  out of a factory mk3 boostspoiler - he cut it to shape and fitted upright! it looked very as I remember and almost as if it was made that way. Ive got that RGA rubber boot spoiler to go on so I might have a go at copying what he did with my old original spoiler... might give me another option if I can do it.

TwinTurbo

do i spy a 2.8 efi plenum?

TT

capri v8 driver

yes, i also noticed a 2.8 efi plenum. much beter than a k injection plenum.

Even I use a 2.8 EFI plenium becouse janspeedcapri uses one to!

Paul, great car, I don't think my 1.6 focus could outrun you

but, I think this might be a bit of a challenge hahaha

I gave Mrs Timo (Tessie) the thanks!

Cheers, and I keep looking at the posts!

Yep and if you look at the pic below, the twin throttles and intake manifold  ...probably sell the plenum and throttles eventualy when I build my own - its the 6 port intake manifold that matters... the runners are bit long for boost imo but thats another episode fore the future

Super 12v

She look like a beaut! credit to you
