Hi Guys,

By popular request, here's my little project, gonna do Stages, Sprints, Hillclimb, etc with it.

I reckon it's coming together well, considering the stock 1.7 Puma only arrived 5 weeks ago, and my Cossie Scorpio Estate was still in daily use at that point lol

A wee Ford Puma, converted to 4x4 and BOB Cossie V6, with manual select blast proof auto "frankenstein" tranny.

Initially its gonna be set up with stock 24V 2.9 BOB Cossie, and once the car is finished later this year hopefully, I'll be buildng a short stroke 2449cc BOB turbo screamer to go in it.

It'll also be having the Widearch Body Kit like a Ford Racing Puma as the track is now some 4" wider

Back end structure all welded up and 4x4 rear end test installed.....

It is updated as I'm building it, almost on a daily basis.
Fanks for looking,

I really like the project,

What is the weight of the car? And how did you convert the auto gearbox to 4x4?

Good luck with it!

robrs2

Looking good. I'm going to be 4x4ing my bob motor soon too.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

Good luck with your own projects.

Weight wise stock Puma is 1000kg, I have lightened it significantly, with all the bits stripped off it.  I will then be adding some weight, 4x4 gear, cage etc, so I'm guessing at around 1100kg when built.
This is some 400kg lighter than the 4x4 24V Sapphire Sierra I built and that was very very quick

The Auto hasn't been 4x4'd yet, but for a semi retired auto transmission specialist (me), it doesn't look like it will be difficult.
There are a few about hat have been done with a type 9 back end, this wasn't too hard apparantly.

I'm basically going to look at fitting a 4x4 MT75 back end onto the rear of my existing Auto, because I have a few of them but no type 9's.  If it's not a goer I will get a type 9 4x4back end but.....

It looks like a 10mm Ally plate welded to a machined flat MT75 back end and bolt holes to suit the back of the auto case.  Slight mod to a 4x4 Explorer (shorter than 2wd), mainshaft fitted in my Auto Tranny and thats about it....... Simples

Quick update.....

6 weeks into the Puma Build Up, front and rear welding all done and 4x4 F+R ends test installed.
Bug Eye 24V Scorpio Discs and Calipers all round.

Engine now 4x4'd and installed for a final test fit to mark up the floor for a final trim before welding in transmission tunnel.....

And finally a bit of stainless porn.....

http://s947.photobucket.com/albums/ad318/Dave2302/24V%20Turbo%20Cosworth%204x4%20Puma/?action=view&current=Puma134.jpg[/img]

And no I can't get hold of another pair, these were custom made to fit a 4x4 Sierra a few years back and apart from being a work of art to fit round all the 4x4 bits, they added about 30HP to an otherwise stock BOB 24V

Cheers Dave

Your not going to chop them up for turbo headers are you?

Looks like the 4x4 sump fits with the bob oil cooler then.

Nice build!   cracking on with it.

Not gonna chop headers, they are going on the N/A engine, the turbo lump comes after its built up and running N/A.

The BOB cooler doesnt fit, thats a 4x4 Arm and cooler

Puma's a bit further on now, major shell mods all done, gotta go round it now sorting out little brackets for brake hoses handbrake cable, sort gearbox saddle and centre prop mount and shorten rear prop.

Then on with body kit.

Some Pix up to date.....

Dave2302

Hi Gerry,

Cheers.

Well the target for completion was November, then shake it down a bit on the slippery winter roads and go do the "Snowman" Rally at the end of Jan.

However I hadn't factored into that how busy I am during the summer 'Tourist Season', and the year seems to be dissapearing fast, so not so sure now lol !!
The good thing about being busy is it will help fund some of the more exensive items when the time comes, like coilovers, seats harnesses etc, but of course it does mean less time spent in the workshop on the Puma

So I guess it's gonna be done when it's done lol
