ok every one.heres my storry.

It started a long while ago.May 2009 to be honest.I bet every one kind of remembers the day they receive the 1st project car and that wondering walks arround the car.One after onether one!So did i!

Despite im being told its a project car not a quick fix,and me being a welder in some sort of how bad can it be?

and it was had its share from M.O.T enthusiasts been patched up with fiesta sill

or other sorts of metal

Or even filled with bathroom sealer and maybe thought "what the hell, why bother"

Anyway, cutting the long story short car stripped out, welding torch fired up.

The worst bit is since i dont have a garage or some thing like that i have to work under a tarpoline and its not the best place to be but what can i do?I have the ford bug!

I can proudly announce that i am nearly tehre with welding.Just e few odd brackets.

so started to paind underneats before i underseal it and get my hands dirty with oily bits. And hopefully a fresh lick of Strato Silver in the summer. hope fully thats the plan!

heref a few more things done.Basicly all inside the car since the weather isnt that good.here they come...

what i did was first a coatof rust beater was applied to the areas that are suspected to have rust remainings and then it had some sealent over the welds and panel joint that have been disturbed during the welding then a nice coat of Hammerite and heres the final result. The sealent parts werent painted during the pics taken because it wasnt dry yet then, but managed to find some updated ones

As youd know weather isnt that good so what i can do is limited. So its only a tiny update but still, a step closer to the victory

Some will notice that floor pans are not fully painted where the join the sills, reason for that is i want to underseal them ofcourse after a rust treatment so i didnt feel need to paint them.Cant wait to have some fun with the underseal..Just remembered how much i like underseal

That's how you should treat a car.

Cut out all the rust and weld it back up.

You did a very good job there mate.

The first few pics were of the sunroof? Did you get that sorted as that looks like a pig to fix.

sierra3dr

Superb results.  The sunroof frame is well rotten. Have managed to get a fuel sender?

that sun roof is nasty. reminds me on my first capri with a standaard sunroof. what ever i did, the rust came back. there was only 1 solution, drill all the spotwells off the complet sunroof rails and sheetmetal, take it out, sandblast everything and weld it back together and even than, a few years later, rust again. i got so fed up with it, i sold that capri, to a older guy. after 3 years i saw that capri again...... at the yunkyard. the body was still solid and had no rust, not even on the weak spots, but the roof that looked like swiths cheese.

back than no one know that condensation in the capri was 1 off the roof rust problems. the other os the movement off the sheetmetal. if i every would do it again, i would weld the roof back in and seal every seam with lead.

it was a nasty thing i have to admit.i had to take the whole sun roof pan out weld the rusty bits then paint it and hammarite it before it goes back on.but one thing is where the welding was isnt painted as it burns away and also it was not only plug welded but glued back with silicone,my theory is where its been plug welded, paint burns so after a while it rusts again.i have noticed that in my sapphire as i open the boot to put my bag in the boot every morning before i go to work.as they dont have lining in the boot you can clearly see the condensation.wish i could affort dipping.

i had a few sierras and i can say that the sun roof isnt the strongest point of rust protection throu out the ford range .i assume you re doing a restoration in some kind,if you have an topic some where id like to have a look,

I've started my long awaited (well, by me anyway) 4i rebuild.  Just cut all the rot out of the back half, gonna start the welding this week now I've got some time off work. Have started a thread but there's bog all on it yet. (Supercharged V8 XR4i)

hi everyone. heres a  bit more update on the 4i. its all  been treated and wax oiled (well...almost everywhere .passenger floor pan still needs to be done) and ready to be painted, the thing is i want to do some other areas that wasnt done in the factory such as sills and maybe the batery tray and the radiator cross member.under the roof skin is partly done so need to get the rest done and i am hoping to be done with that nasty black stuff anyway heres the pictures

and this is the passenger side

it may not look like a show stopper or concours but thats because it isnt, after all it hasnt been painted yet so i hope then it will look better and most importantly keep the rust bug away. thats it for now folks,i started doing some filler job (only experement) on the sills so more pics to come when waxoiling finished and painted
