Hi all, not posted anything for a bit so I thought I'd mention my new side project. Got hold of a fairly solid MK3 fiesta 1.1 recently so thought I'd use up some of my spares. We've put coilovers all round, (cheapish aftermarket types) ST24 front calipers and discs mounted on escort hubs. Just need a Focus rear disc setup to mount on a puma rear beam.
We removed the whole wiring loom and have grafted in a full puma loom. Then the fun bit started, managed to install the Puma 1.7 complete. After a bit of fannying around with the mounts managed to get it in and running. Only problem is that it starts on the button but cuts out after a few seconds and wont rev. Any ideas on why??????
The interior is fully stripped, ST24 half leather seats solid mounted with the runners removed and mounted about 6 inches further back. Modified Probe steering column lowered under original mounts and the pedal box will be mounted further back too.
Just got to mount the power steering rack in about no space at all and connect it all up.
I'll pop some pics on later so you can all marvel at my big hammer craftmanship

Got a bit further on with the Mk3. After making the mounts for the rack we decided to paint the engine bay in its new shade of powder blue and tarted up a few of the pipes and brake bits to make it look a bit better. The engines still a bit grubby as i couldn't be arsed going to town on it as I'm gonna start looking for a second, lower milage unit to fettle once its up and running properly.
Hit its first real problem though. The driveshafts are about an inch too long so may have to get them shortened unless I can find shorter ones that will fit.

Pics are on my camera but keep forgetting to bring it home to upload. Will try to remember tomorrow.

Does anyone know if its been done before, cant find any Mk3 conversions on t'interweb.

Thanks, Mik.

What type of gearbox are you using?

If it's an IB5, you can use the Mk3 driveshafts.

We tried the mk3 shafts but wouldn't fit the escort hubs we're using for the big brakes. Didn't think about splitting the shafts to see if the splined ends would work. Bugger. Had a tidy up and got rid of  all the bits I didn't need. Apart from the mk3 shafts which I did need. Bugger. Back to the breakers I guess  for the shafts.  :(

Sounds nice Mik  I can't see one done either  ;)

Finally got some pics sorted out.

Had to make a new engine mount, doesn't look too bad.

As the Fiesta is gonna run with the original 1.1 rad, I needed to sort out a better fan than the stock unit.

As I'm using up my spares to build the car I'm limited on what I can use. Nothing I had would fit well till I noticed that a Mondeo twin unit had the same outer diameter. Out came the blades and it got chopped.

After about an hour and a half I ended up with this.

The final article. Works well and fits in the original mounts.
