This is my4i I'm giving a 24v transfer maybe i'tll be an auto not shure yet ,going to start taking it to bits as soon as I 've finished the engine. What are your views on the type 9 existing box if I stick to manual?,Ive got more pictures to put on soon,i'm learning  regards glyn

ha, white xr4i,,,drible drible!!!!!
as ya know my xr4i is going auto and i am sure it will be fast enough to suprise people!
i have some mods for the auto box that will make it a storming car and could well be faster than manual.

the type 9 is going to be weak, to be honest i would spend on an mt75 rwd or convert to 4x4 (quite easy)
to give you an idea i brake the mt75 box's 2 or 3 times a year and they are stronger than the type9.
saying that i do hammer my xr4x4 so that could explain it.

i know people dont like auto's but spend £600 on it and youl have an evil car with no problems at all!

No m8, any ford can go on stand or park in car park and walk in, long walk though    either way get ya ticket through Tony as there a lot cheaper then you will have to pay on the day, be good to meet up if you can make it.

glyn

Hi Glyn,

Good stuff, l agree with taps a 24v for 80 quid, that's my sort of deal

I've not seen a 24v with the heads of and was interested to see that the castings for the 12v cam followers were there, is it the same block that is used in the 2.9 12v and 24v's?

I know what grinding valves is like and I only have 12    I know that you are in the trade and will probably know this, but you can stick a regular hand grinding suction stick into a variable drill and I make life a lot easier

(try the link below, if you like this sort of stuff the whole diary is brill, the guys a bit of a nob but the job he undertook was mammoth.... but not a ford i'm afraid)

if you do go with the auto box, remember to remove the old gear box mounts before filling the tunnel up.
the mounts will catch the linkage,, i didnt remove mine and its going to rattle,, there is no way of doing it once the box is in!!!!

Stripped under the car, stripped axle beam off grany ,sand blasted and painted them this morning, starting on drive shafts next,I had a brocken spring o/s rear ,got koni set up to put back lowerred by 30mm ,petrol tank is off going to panel gaurd underneath.Has anyone tried mixing paint with the light grey panel gaurd going to mix diamond white in it.Take some pics later on ans post here.Marty's sussed a good way of changing over to 7.5 diff but I wanted to strip the lot out anyway and I got plenty of parts here.

Dave

Glyn I would spray on top of it as the paint makes it go off to quick & it won't stick as well.
