hello people,

are there on this forum, people whit experiance about how to get glasfibre wing's straight?

i bolded some glasfibre wing's on my capri, and the problem after the first paintjob was that they developed dents after a wile. so now i sand the down again and filled all this dent's and put a heavy coat off primer over them, i sand them down whit 1200 grit sanding paper and the looked straight and no dent's anymore.

great, i tought, till a few days later, most off the dents are back again

how can i stop this? what can i do to prevent this?  i know steel wing's are the beter choise, but i can't find them for a reasonble price and 500 pounds for 1 new one is a bit to expencive for me, so these glasfibre wing's are the only option at this moment and they turn out to be a complet nightmare.

someone has any idea's?

hello wardy,

i can't make a decent picture off it because off the primer color. they are small little dents, all behind each other over the complet lenght of the wing, just like it's bid buckeld.

what i did noticed at efe in landgraaf is that most car's that uses glasfibre wing's have this litle buckeld surface. first i thought that i sanded them whit to much pressure, but sanding them whit very litle pressure applyed, still have the same result after a few days.

the glasfibre wing's are on the car for almost 4 years, so the glasfibre shoudt have bin fully cured and stop "working".

Do they have a thick coating of gel coat on them?  Fibreglass is a tricky material that needs to be done properly.

the gell coat look's thick. when i first bolded the wing's on the capri, you need to cut the egde's to get it to fit, the gell coat on the surface is just sanded carefully whit 240 grit, to avoid sanding true the coat. after that i used primer to cover the gell coat, before i did any filling or any other work to the wing.

There is something you can do to stop the buckling. When the wing is on and in final position you can fibreglass something called "paper rope" to the inside of the wing. This is basically a thin piece of wire which has been specially wrapped. It is soaked in resin and then positioned where  needed and fibreglassed for re-inforcement, usuall place to put it is on any swage line and across the join between original wing or whats left of it and the new wing.
The idea is that you can form a light weight frame work which gives amazing strength to the new wing.
