Quote from: dave73 on July 08, 2025, 09:57:02 That's both E10 & E5, I thought E5 was safe.

Dave

Nope. E5 has the same problems. There are more organic components in it, the ethanol, and bacteria grow in that. This not only makes the gasoline go bad faster, it also makes the gasoline acidic, causing tanks and fuel system parts to corrode and dissolve faster.

There are however by law E5 marked fuels that don't contain ethanol. Shell, Ok, Tamoil and Tinq in the Netherlands claim they don't use ethanol in there 98 ron fuels. For now that is. I don't know if its the same in the UK.

Even ethanol-free gasoline can degrade and go bad over time, though it generally has a longer shelf life (up to 1 year in optimal conditions) than gasoline with ethanol (6 weeks to 3 months). While ethanol-free gasoline is less prone to issues like water absorption, it can still oxidize but in a lesser degree as E fuels.

Quote from: dave73 on July 07, 2025, 09:56:14 Ok, I suppose if your not using the car that much and the tank does go or one is not available, you could always make one out of stainless steel.

Dave

Or a plastic fuel tank.  ;) Point is that the E marked fuels, when it goes bad and it stays in the fuel tank and fuel system, it make a big mess of the fuel tank and the rest of the fuel system. Plenty of cars that come out of storage each year that have bad fuel, corrodes the tank, leaking fuel lines and filters and in the worse case burn down because of this. You see this every spring. Since you are doing a car that stood still for 10 years this is a something i should mention.

Nope i would not use a coating. When E fuel goes bad it can get very aggressive and eat the zink inside the tank and starts to rust. Even a coating will dissolve over time.

I made a drain in my 20M and Capri tank in case of a longer storage time i can drain the tank. After that i can fill the tank with synthetic fuel. This fuel stays good for 3 years.

Quote from: dave73 on July 05, 2025, 09:13:13 Thank you for confirmation Paul, will go with your recommendation, odd thing, there was no gasket when I took cover off and it wasn't leaking.

You mentioned

"That a standard Granada/Scorpio 2.9 cosworth 7.5 inch 3.64 LSD diff used till '92"

What did they use after 92, because the Scorpio Ultima wasn't until 94-98,

 Dave

The left overs from the '92 model. The '93 model only sold in low numbers (less then 15.000 in total) Because of the arrival of the new model. But even the new model did not sell well and only (average) 25.000 scorpio's where made each year.

Ford only produced 30.000 BOA engines in the entire lifespan. Only 90% of the boa got used for the scorpio, the remaining 10% of the new produced engines is used as a test or spare engine or is sold as a engine only for racing ect. Relate this to the numbers of LSD diff's and you will see there aren't many out there anymore.

You will be able to find seals and bearings for it but not cheap. The viscous LSD parts will be difficult to find.

I would check the workings of the LSD, replace the gasket, fill it with oil and run it. If there isn't noise you will be fine.
