Hi all,

I'm Alex and I own a Ford Granada MkI coupe from 1972. I'm currently restoring the car to restomod glory. I have high standards and a clear vision of what my car should be when finished.

At the moment, the car is alsmost fully stripped to a shell (only glass remaining) and located on a specially constructed framework. It is unfortunately rather rusty in all the usual places for thismodel Ford. It seemed solid, but all repairs proved to have been made over the underlying rust so had to come out again. It's a lot of work, but I'm dedicated to this car so it will get done. My own welding skills leave a lot to be disered to a friend helps me.

Mechanically I have stripped it to components and have had everything powdercoated. All rebuilding is done by me. I fitted PU bushes tot the suspension and am now locating new (rust proof) bolts to put it all back together into two subframes (granny MkI's are so easy to work on).

The reason for introducing myself here is this: enginewise I will be using a Cosworth BOB with the A4LDE BOB gearbox. I understand from contacts that the good people here have alle the knowledge that will help me get this engine and box running. The plan is to use the original ecu and loom. I've got the complete loom from the donor car.

So that is it basically, I've got a load of questions on the engine project and hope that you can point me in the right direction. I guess the engine part of the forum will be the place to be for me...

I've got my own website, but currently it is still only in dutch. It may however give all of you a view of what I'm doing. www.granada-mk1.nl

Thanks for reading thusfar!

Yeah, you gonna be dissapointet with the 208 horses in you granny, i think you want to put a turbo or a supercharger on it, does sven has his turbo stuff? Get him mad andget it on your car mate!

mk2 cossie

welcome along  ;D

i think 200bhp in a granada mk1 or 2 should be adequate

maybe after a couple of months it might not be enough though  ;)

Eurogranada

Haha, I may get Sven so far as to help me turbocharge my engine, but I don't feel the need to. It's a cruiser, ok, a pretty quick cruiser...

But first things first: let's get the bob and bob box running! Then fitted (yes, I'm getting it running besides the car and will then install subframe and engine/gearbox as one unit).

I do have a dream to one day put a very advanced v8 in and I would also love to put a 7 of 8 speed autobox in like some brands are now offering. But fundswise that will never happen and also taking for instance an audi v8 with autobox or any other ultramodern example will probably be hellish to get running in an oldtimer.

To me getting the BOB running is already quite a challenge.

Search on the forum here, here are guys who got a bob or boa running on a ecu from a mondeo v6, good article to read, and who knows it helps?

Its a shame you ditched the uniqe 2.6 with the 2.8 efi, that was cool

Further, i found out one thing thats sorry abouth the 24v engine, it misses the feeling of power youve got on a proper 2.8 or on a 2.9, its just smooth all the way, not how i like my engine! Maybe, if yours is done, my will also be done, and i can see it on efe or somewhere else?

Doyou know how far sven is with his home brew ecu? It sounds promising if i know sven a bit...

Ps, i know an eaton m supercharger just for your engine in tilburg, superlasser has one...

Ever thought about a toyota v8 ?

Pretty cheap and very modern engine and gearbox.

I think I saw that somewhere, but haven't yet read that particular thread. I'll look into it.

The 2600 with 2800efi was indeed cool and it worked like a dream! Never having the car stall because the carb wasnot happy when it was cold etc. Really made for a wonderful engine. And the sound was awesome. I know the BOB wil be different, but then again, civilised power has also something te be said for. I did really love the exhaust note though, when revving tot the limits it was mighty!!

But In the end I did want something with a little more power still... Sometimes I wish I hadent... But then again, when this thing is finally on the road again, it will be a killer car!

An eaton will be a bridge too far for me though!

Sven is currently working on writing an MMS on a specific type of ecu he has available. Don't know the details, but it is rumoured to be cheap and good! May even be an option for my BOB... But then you'd have the gearbox actuation that is an issue because with the ford ecu that is built in. And with svens', it isn't.

You still can use a stand alone gearbox controller from bauman.

Thanks Paul,

Looks like I still have a lot to learn, but also several options.

BOA ecu and loom with rpm switch
Mondeo V6 (97) manual ecu, bob loom with bauman gearbox controller
BOB ECU and loom
Aftermarket ECU's...

Although the goal remains running the BOB and gearbox on its original mms. Mainly because it's fast enough for an oldie cruiser Granny coupe. And I have most parts (thoug the important ecu and keys are currently missing at a friends workshop.

If the key and ecu is already missing, that could be a problem.

I believe René (Cossiekiller) has one bob ecu with keys. You could give him a call.

BOA ecu and loom with rpm switch would be the easy option, however, you still need a controller for the bob gearbox or use a older automatic from the boa.

I'll contact rené...

The ecu and keys were safely stored, so they should be there, but you know how that is. Everything you put away extra carefully is the last stuff you find and usually once you have no need for it any more...
