After seeing Phatphil's supercharged 24v I'd though i'd put up some pics of my little hobby project.

I got it on the road last Saturday (just to drive home  ) and still got a lot of things that need doing but atleast its running    .

Let me know what you think eh?

Looks like an M62....   is that going to push enough air?

Did you make the inlet adapter yourself?

chris that is an m90 mate! yes he did make the adapter, clever bloke but dont tell him.. he'l get big headed he he he

mad max  ooww sorry i mean jurgen

Nice job, looks great and I will be really interested to see how it develops. I originally had 2 x M45's which I planned to mount either side of the plenum feeding directly into it. But I got offered a great deal on a new M90 and decided to intercool it. So to mount it in the vee, meant a very complex in/out manifold beneath the charger which would have stuck it miles out of the bonnet . Do you have any photos of the car with the bonnet down, I'm interested to see how much it protrudes. What pulley ratio are you using? What boost does that give? I'm interested to compare the intercooled set up like mine and Tony's, with it's inevitable pressure drops along the way but cooler charge, to a direct system like yours. Sometimes the simpler route is the best. It certainly makes for a much neater install, with far less plumbing.

Please keep us informed as you develop it

Good work Jurgen

Is the supercharger the new black then or what. Nobody had one now everyone seems to have one
Dave

Chris

It looked a bit short for an M90, that was why I wasn't sure.....

But it is a clean install, and very nice to see it in the vee.....

All this talk of S/C 24V makes me want to start work on mine, but I think at least for this year, I will just drive it and make sure I don't break anything, I haven't driven it for quite a few years so, it will be nice to do so.  And besides, I want to get the bodywork and inside looking a lot neater before I start playing with the engine and drive train....

It's been neglected for way too long.

Thanks guys.

Yeah it was a lot of work, took me a month or three to get all the hardware together, but i wasn't really trying to hurry .

The intake was the most difficult bit to make, but i had a spare (wrecked) engine so i could build a dummy from which to build the intake off.

Phil, I'm running a 3.7" pulley, didnt do the math on the ratio, but i dont think it boosts that much (havent measured it yet  )

Here's some pics of the intake and the bonnet, just for Phil

Chris this blower was very long, i had a mate of mine mill a few cm's off, so it was exactly the same lenght as the manifold.

well im very surpised it doesnt stick through that much!

He'll be going down the local scrappy trying to find a Scooby STi scoop for it

Chris

cossiemk2

Yeah i was surprised by that too

It sticks out by 3.5 cm, the hunt is now on for a scoop/bulge.

Phatphil

It hardly sticks through at all, very neat. Should be quick in a Mk II shell. I assume its still RWD, which should be great fun.

Phil, yup its still RWD just like it was meant to be.

And it was quick even without the supercharger on, should be hilarious now

capri24v

lookin good mate, will be nice to see what power figures you get outta it, ya gotta post em asap  what ECU you using? and how much boost you running?

Alex

cossiemk2

Thanx Alex, i'm using the BOA ECU for now, just to get it up and running. Havent made my mind up what kind of ECu i'm going to use just yet.

Tony

well jurgen is hopping to bring it over to ford fare and it will hoppfully be on fordpower-uk stand.
so any one wishing to see it, there is ya chance all going well

It's very nice and bound to be very streetable but turbo's are king, they don't run out of puff:)

true mike, but a supercharger does have power from first throttle opening, no lag!
i feel this might be a case of a bigger benift to the low budget car!

Very nice, impressed that its running with the BOA management, makes me want to get on with mine immediatly!  What ratio of pullys are you using with standard management and what ratio will you move to once you get programable management?

wow that is amazing
did you done some modifications do the ECU ??? did you remap it ? more air should cause burning of valves(pistons) or ?  i am dummy so please be patient with me
what kind of transmittion you are using ? and differencial ???
and the exhaust manifold is standart one or?

i am so curious about the details

jurgen has been very clever with the belt.
by using one belt the blower sits as far back as possible

i inderstand he has a few tricks up his sleave with the ecu that he wishes to keep to himself!

Thanks for the replies guys

Phil: I measured the pulleys today and I'm running a 1.37:1 ratio, dunno if that stands for much boost? (Still didnt measure it  )

Went for a 30km drive yesterday night and all I can say is WOOOOOW.
From 1200 rpm it seems like the torque has doubled (probably not but hey, it feels like it  )
It runs through the gears beautifully with no dips/drops on pickup, I'm chuffed to bits really.

Going to sort out some more things on Saturday, so I will get back!

Sounds like you have discovered "The joy of supercharging". As they say "Power is good, but Torque is better. Glad to hear that it is going so well. Do I take it that the rest of the engine is standard, Pistons, Comp. Ratio etc? You'll have fun looking in your rear view mirror, watching those Turbo cars waiting for their boost!

Phil

cossiemk2

Yup i was really pleasantly surprised.

I didnt go full chat yet, as I want to listen for pinking/detonation. I didnt hear any last night tho. (only went 1/2 throttle)

The engine is pretty much standard yes, i only have the BOB cams in it, but that's basically it.

I am however gonna change the exhaust to a smaller diametre, to increase backpressure a bit, and i want to know/get some good camtiming with the different sprockets i have.

What cams/timing are you running Phil? Or is that top secret?

Phatphil

I'm running std BOA cams and timing at the moment, but after reading all the posts about BOB cams, I'm tempted down that road. I'm just kicking myself that I scrapped a BOB engine recently, thinking I wouldn't want any bits off it. I obviously need more storage space!

He he, turbo car's don't have real lag if the engines on stock compression:)  They're letting you get out of the way so thay can pass safely without blowing your doors inside out!

True, I have a 1.8 ZVH in my RST with stock Zetec pistons. I have full boost at 2300 RPM so i dont have lag issues  . But that's a complete other subject.

my mk1 escort is running std comp and t3 turbo with no lag at all

Mikey J

Jurgan,  I've just looked at your inlet manifold base.

It's very like my plenum base plate except it's wider for the s/c.   I could reproduce s/c  inlets quite easily.

Mike.

Beastmaster

go on then mike and i,ll test it for ya...no charge:)
